RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 18, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 18, 2014 Green! After a busy weekend at EM North in Manchester running BCB I've got back to the cutting, the rest of the grass was glued down on Tuesday night and tonight it has been trimmed and painted, a mix of 4 parts Humbrol 24 yellow and 1 part Humbrol 101 green, thinned a bit and sprayed on, track, backscene and existing scenics were masked off. The lengths of plastic strip in the first photo are marking approximately where the fences will be.

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 21, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 21, 2014 Making progress with the fence, first the post hole jig, three holes and moved along one at a time. Posts are 80 x 40 thou. Fitting the rails, 60 x 20 thou, there should be 5 but it looked cramped and too tall, lets assume the bottom rail is in the grass. The posts will be trimmed down to the rails. I need to hurry up, this lot are waiting to take up residence.
Iain Popplewell
Like the pole jig Paul useful idea that. RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 22, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 22, 2014 The first fence is now finished and has had a coat of paint, the posts of the second have been glued in and the rails can be fitted next. Next I made a big mistake, I picked up the tree that had been removed from near the road to see what needed doing to it to improve it, it's quite 'low relief' as it was disguising the corner of the backscene, anyway, it looked a bit pathetic in the now more open landscape so I picked up this tree that has been part made for a few years now and placed it in the hole in the field. It looks spot on, the big problem is it is 2" too high, when fitted, the baseboard cover will squash it and I don't like to have delicate parts being removed regularly. The tree has to stay as it fits perfectly so it looks like the baseboard cover will have to be rebuilt...
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 25, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 25, 2014 More fence. And a gate, one for the other end of the bridge to follow.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 28, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 28, 2014 Really pleased with the way this is turning out, the cutting looks to be still reasonably well looked after but there seems to be some briers taking a hold, there's less and less manpower about these days to keep the railway really tidy. This lot seem to be settling in nicely, plenty of fresh grass to keep them occupied...
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 28, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 28, 2014 With today being Sunday, the S&T department have had possession of the line to install the fixed distant signal for North Handale cabin, the next along the line, it's had a coat of white paint and should be finished tomorrow night. Signals ain't half quick to build if they don't need to work...
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 29, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 29, 2014 Continued painting the signal tonight, just needs weathering a bit now. There's a hedge running along the backscene at the end of the board and there's a gate into the next field. Still needs more work, weathering and rusty ironwork then the hedge 'growing' round it. Based on a real gate... And the gate on the bridge.
aberdare
Hi Paul I remember chatting to you about these changes earlier in the year and it is good to catch up and see them implemented, over such a short time too, well quicker than I would have done it anyway. Bit puzzled that the tree hasn't reappeared though, :scratchhead:I hope it is just away for a bit of TLC and will return in full leaf. Jim
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 30, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 30, 2014 Hi Jim, The tree is now somewhat leafier (is that a word?) and I keep looking at it trying to decide if it has enough leaves, I may just put it on and take a photo to see what you all think. RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted September 30, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 30, 2014 OK, the tree. But first the gates are finished and hung. The tree, your thoughts please.
aberdare
That looks great Paul, I'd be proud to have that. I like to see that little bit of openess so that some of the background shows through and I think you have captured that perfectly, any more foliage I think will spoil it. That's my view on it anyway for what it's worth. Jim
