csiedmo
Hello everyone, Just wondering where this station is? You'd think the destination box and train reporting number would be a big clue, but I'm still drawing a blank. Many thanks, Ed
csvt2004
Possibly Pontefract Baghill 3

RJS1977
I was going to say probably somewhere in Yorkshire as the destination blind is for Leeds Central. One thing though - I was of the understanding that normally only the front blind on a multiple unit would say where the train was going to, with the other being set for the reverse journey - or have I dreamed that? csiedmo
Excellent work chaps! I've just cracked open the 1962 WTT and I'm astonished at the relatively bountiful passenger service Baghill enjoyed in those days. Regarding the destination blind, from a practical point of view when using a bay platform at least, it makes sense to me to have destination at the rear, else it's rather a long walk for the passenger to discover where it might be heading. Many thanks, Ed
RMweb Gold nigb55009 Posted June 24, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2022 It was part of the Drivers job to set the correct blinds at both ends. Although, as one ol hand said to a Traction Inspector, "Why bother, if they can see the back it usually means they`ve missed it." 2
Wickham Green too
Best to know you've just missed the train you wanted to catch ........ rather than walking out of the station and not knowing whether that was IT - or the one that's just pulling in now that you can't get back in time ! doilum
If it is Baghill, it must have been during the short period when the curve over the viaduct was in use as the station is on the S&K with no direct connection to Leeds? The curve allowed the train to run back through Monkhill which is on the L&Y running through Cutsyke to Methley Junction or via Castleford . RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted June 26, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 26, 2022 Definitely Pontefract Baghill, the curve to Monkhill was still in use when DMUs arrived in the Leeds area. Incidentally the viaduct over the A645 is still there although the track is long gone. Baghill now has a less than minimal Sheffield-York passenger service but the line still carries plenty of freight. 1
Jones the Steam
This maybe a better photograph, as you can see the station name. This and the main photograph by Peter Cookson.
odlyprincess
Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum. Sorry for jumping into dialogue. I love watching the old photos and compare them with what currently is. I'd be happy to see the photo of this places how they are look now. Wheatley
For Northern stations there is now a full walkthrough survey available for most of them on Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/@53.691916,-1.3032527,3a,75y,29.31h,83.95t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sAF1QipPzQHthvhGoOpOrfh_uUpDkG8GNBcT7GVgmxBhU!2e10!7i8192!8i4096 You might have to spin it round a bit.

Hmm - on the WR (if not elsewhere?) the setting of the rear end indicator was the Guard's job. Interestingly the 1960 and 1972 General Appendix Instructions didn't say who was responsible for setting the destination indicators.

Interesting that the platform lamps are offset to a bay platform, that is no longer there!
Wheatley
I think they're lighting the subway ramp between the blue and concrete fences.
