Wouldn't have thought a 31 and Mk1s would have been on a service to the SW in '86 - are there any notes with the pic to give any more info? Not that I was around BNS much in those years.

The RailGenArchive has it operating 1V21 1400 York - Plymouth Relief on that day, Tuesday 27 May 1986. 1

Nothing more than a reference to RailGenArchive as quoted above, unfortunately. Judging from the exhaust and position the train is actually departing rather than just parked, however, so 1V21 York - Plymouth certainly fits. If left unattended for long, these handy things would sometimes be used by BR staff for moving parcels and mail around the place. It did happen occasionally, I had a 31, 121 I think, Bristol TM - New St in July 1985.
