RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted March 13 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 13 Quite warm out there tonight so good progress with the ground work, the front of board 1 is covered, I've added a bit of a ridge where hedges will go. Leaving suitable gaps for gateways. Progressing well on board 2 now.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted March 20 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 20 Ah, the reason for the crane, another two loads ready for away. Well, he wouldn't want to get his boots wet... fettled the bridge planks to fit better and cut a notch in the ground to bed it in. Cut a slot out of the platform ramp to drop the signal in. 45
RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted March 23 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 23 To break up the plain lines of the slope on board 4 there's a drain from the road through the village that runs through a culvert under the railway and down into the beck. I'd cut a slot in the board top behind the railway ready for it then covered it all over with the landscape and now I've cut out the shape of the ditch on both sides. I've made the front of the culvert from plasticard and this slots under the board. I'm thinking for the slope down to the beck to make a stone chanel as its quite steep. 30

We have a similar arrangement on our club layout - though rather less posh as it's a Dapol signal and the layout is 00 BR(W) c. 1955, I'm afraid. But I shall be taking notes on how this gets finished off.

If the subsequent channel is steep, then sometimes a set of cascade steps to reduce energy when water from the culvert hits the beck could be put in. Not something I've seen modelled. 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted March 24 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 24 A bit more landscaping, this time at the back, just ordinary filler as there's no need for the texture like along the river bank and the road surface needs to be smooth.

Not something I've seen modelled. Ref my comment above, spotted a cascade on the A169 on the drop into the 40mph limit, Whitby side of Sleights and thought of you 🙂. You can see it on Streetview on the link below. You might need to select the October 2009 view (hopefully the link does that for you though . . .) RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted April 1 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 1 As we progress towards adding green stuff, got stocked up at York yesterday, I've been thinking about adding gates into fields. Looking at a few old photos around Bilsdale many of the field gates seem to be a similar style to the ones over our side of the moors. Below is an example probably made by my grandad 40+ years ago, I may even have helped with it as I remember helping gim a couple of times when I was a kid. So, a couple of gates for board 1, opposite the goods yard entrance and along the back above the signal cabin. Built from 60x20 and 50x20 thou plastic strip with 'stone' gate posts carved from balsa.

KeithHC
Wonderful video all looks great. I noticed there seams to be a slight misalignment on one of the goods yard points. One of the sidings looks as though the point has risen above the siding. Also in my mind’s eye I thought the orientation was round the other way with Hemsley being off to right but I now stand corrected. Still a marvellous layout. It does look like it bobs in the video, not noticeable in real life, could be a slightly wonky wheel from re gauging, something I need to look at. 1 hour ago, KeithHC said: Wonderful video all looks great. Yes, there is a dodgy track alignment in the yard, also a couple of spots where the loco bounces through the turnouts, all to look into. 1 hour ago, KeithHC said: Also in my mind’s eye I thought the orientation was round the other way with Hemsley being off to right but I now stand corrected. Still a marvellous layout. Keith The site I've chosen for the station is between the village and the beck, squeezed together a bit to fit them in, hopefully bits of the village will be visible behind the hedge. The goods yard has been arranged to be shunted by goods trains originating from Middlesbrough. 4
RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted April 2 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 2 First experiments with making hedges tonight, horse hair and a couple of different scatters, I think it's gone quite well, the sheet of hair is about an inch thick so a half inch-ish wide strip was cut off and this torn in half, it was a bit regular so I rolled it between my hands which opened it out a bit, I'd tried teasing it out but it easily became a bit too open. The piece was about 8 inch long and I stuck a skewer through one end so it could be sprayed with spray mount then the bulk of the green scatter sprinkled on, next a coat of matt varnish then a bit of lighter mixed scatter and another coat of varnish, they will need a bit more work and trimming and it should be OK. 29
