You need this thread for discussion of the detail: Broadly, less impact than the major changes to retailing already caused by online selling within the UK. Thoroughly impressive miniature engineering, although I wonder if the real things ever attained that sort of blurred rod-twiddling speed? I'm not sure I'd want to be nearby if one did! No doubt 50 or so loaded coal wagons behind the tender would calm it down a bit. 2

Still impressive, but after viewing again, this time listening too, I question two points: Style of smokebox door - too modern for the Sturrock / Stirling eras? Did Sacré of the MS&LR really come up with the original steam tender idea? According to a long article I read on the history of articulated locos and booster devices, neither Sturrock nor Sacré were the very first to equip a loco with a steam driven tender. RMweb Gold JCL Posted February 24 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24 Hi Graham, you're keeping us in suspense! If it wasn't them in the library with the lead pipe, who was it? :)
gr.king
I didn't realise I had you on tenterhooks. An article in March 2017 Backtrack attributes the origin of the steam tender to one Monsieur Verpilleux, whose design was built for the St. Etienne to Lyons Railway in 1843.

Fair enough. Sadly a lot of people these days actually think it's tenderhooks so I'm never sure 😄

Tiny151
Great to see the Single samples out over the weekend. One for @RapidoCorbs here. As it sounds like they're a little way off yet, I wondered if there's a chance for a tweak to the cab front lining on this second run? Comparing to the real loco, there's a thick band where the boiler transitions to the cab and lining to the spectacle plate which intersects this. The lining at the base of the cab also seems to cut off early, though that's presumably due to some manufacturing constraint? It's not massively noticeable but does finish everything off nicely, so thought it worth a mention in case useful. I also note that the mini splasher for the trailing wheel set is green on top rather than black! 1

gr.king
I'd be keener for every example to have the base of the cabside meeting the running plate without a gap, along a perfectly horizontal line, with no evidence of parts that don't quite fit being forced together.

Well, we’ve got the perfect match for you. The order books are closing on the 4th of March, so why not couple up to the gorgeous GNR Stirling Single by pre-ordering yours before they are all taken? https://rapidotrains.co.uk/gnr-stirling-single-no-1/ I still have the Single from the original production. Runs perfectly and now has the Hattons Genesis coaches for company. I understand the sound files were derived from archived footage, however as the decoder will move to an ESU V5, will the re-run have upgraded sound files and speaker? No reply - looks as though I need to contact the company directly! Edited April 15 by zr2498 Extra comment
