Mark @7821 this sounds like very good news and as a few people have said above and as per my comment on the original FB post - a website will be essential - accepting it all takes time.

If in the meantime a list of what you have / what you intend to release would be a very good start.

I live in Spain, which generally means I don’t visit model railway shows.

Good luck with your new venture, I hope it’s the success the range deserves, having been “in the doldrums” for a few years!

When you sort out the castings side of the kits, presumably that will see an alternative to Shapeways for some Dean bogies?

Good luck!

Neal.

Totally support Neal on this one. Apart from a couple of trips back to the UK I spend most of my time in Australia. I have a few Mallards left but will have them built in the next 6 months or so.

Good luck with your venture

Quite agree! Being nosy, I wondered what Set 31 actually was, reached for Mike King's Pull-Push book - and found it was on the cover in colour! A hybrid SECR/LSWR set, actually.

Neal, in the latest Scalefour News it says Dart/MJT have some 10' and 8'6" cosmetic Dean bogie sides on the way soon. There is a photo in the magazine, but they don't appear to be on the website yet. The news item says that 6'4" should be available in the new year as well. Very good timing if the Blacksmith GWR clerestory etches are going to be available again soon. (Edit: typo)

I'd totally forgotten starting that 2011 conversation. Gr8 to see some folk still here that were on there! I seem to remember I was 'young' and much slimmer and fitter then?

12 years eh?

Mike, a lovely collection of builds there.

Also that Set 31 is so beautifully weathered (ex Tim Hale?)

Also gr8 that Blacksmiths is revived. Good luck with the future venture.

All the best everyone.

Excellent news. I've always regretted not getting hold of a few Blacksmith GWR carriages I wanted back when they were readily available. The idea of re-releasing the etches with perhaps 3d printed detail parts is very exciting.

I understand it may take a while to get up and running, but I do think a holding website would be a good idea, listing what could be made available and perhaps adding an 'expression of interest' function so you can get a sense of where specifically the demand within the range lies.

Best of luck with it. I'll be a future customer!

Is there a list of what’s in the Blacksmith range?

Using Wayback Machine I've retrieved the following information for the kits Blacksmith were doing back in 2010 and listed them as an Excel file.

For anyone not familiar with using Wayback Machine then the following link should take you to the archived Blacksmith website pages (I think most of the links to their products shown on there work should you wish to look at the non-kit stuff they did :

interesting list i will compare this to my packing lists and etch tools

i have no 2 or 3mm tools but this isnt to say i cant do  2 or 3mm and with some castings being replaced with 3 d prints rescaling isnt such an issue

Thanks Mark

  • Tim Dubya changed the title to Blacksmith Models

looking like the siphon F will be the 1st kit back into production im building the 1 set of etches i have this comes with a etched roof that i will pre form

not sure on cost as of yet but hoping to get it done for under £50

please express interest here by email info@blacksmithmodels.co.uk or on the gwr modelers FB page but please only do it in 1 place as if im left with large amounts of stock then this will slow down the reintroduction of other kits

Thanks for the support so far Mark

thank you for your custom

glad to be able to put some of the items back out there

the problem ive found is there isnt enough castings to make 1 single kit of any type

so by getting items like this  back out this helps the cash flow

thanks again Mark

It would be a great improvement to this site if it stated what scale-gauge the models are. I even downloaded a pdf from the site. That doesn't give any clue as to what scale the models are!

As far as I'm aware the range is all 4mm, as per the first post on this thread.

Thanks, it would be nice if the supplier would let people in on the secret on their web page. I've come across other model railway sites which omit to let potential purchasers know what scale they are catering for. It's just common sense to let people know what the product specifications are isn't it?.

I'm kind of with you on that - I think I'm the reason that the Invertrains site now says all items are 7mm! From what I remember, a web search took me directly to some buffers, and as they are VERY reasonably priced for 7mm I didn't realise....

That is true in RTR as well. Bachmann retained the Graham Farish name for N scale, which is very useful (as I model in 00, I know to ignore Farish). Other manufacturers don’t separate the different scales they operate in, which is sometimes puzzling.

Ah. But when I was buying Graham Farish they were 00 gauge!

And just remembered I've got another 94XX as I've got a Graham Farish 00 version as well.....
