The alternative would be Church Fenton - a real expansive hub station - but not as attractive. Regards Chris H A nice afternoon drive to take the children rowing on the river. Plompton/Plumpton Rocks near Spofforth was also a nice spot. Not changing my vote though.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 26, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 26, 2020 Got hot water, but still no heat.Looks like I'll have to pay for an emergency plumber, as I've checked all the things I'm capable of doing. A couple more high plonks to look at while I try to get this sorted. 24
RMweb Premium great northern Posted September 26, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2020 Easy winner in this poll. Knaresborough 7, nowhere else more than one. I don't think we have done wayside stations on ECML between Doncaster and Newcastle, so that will be today's poll. By Heck, that's difficult. See what I did there? 1
FarrMan
Does Darlington count as 'wayside'? If so, I'll vote for that. Impressive looking station from the inside, at least. Lloyd

RMweb Premium Metropolitan H Posted September 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2020 My vote goes for Alne - change for the Easingwold Railway. If Alne is discounted - on the basis that it is a junction (?) - the alternative would have to be Danby Wiske, because I like the name! RMweb Gold Market65 Posted September 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 26, 2020 Beningbrough for today’s poll since I have a nice photo’ of it, in a book, with a B16/1, 61410, on a very long up freight running on the up slow line in June, 1954. CUTLER2579
Gilbert, can you get at the Pump and place a screwdriver against it and your ear to the handle of the screwdriver, to hear if the pump is working. The system could use gravity to heat the Hot water and the pump for the rads. Knowing when your house was roughly built, that is a possibility. ( I don't mean house was built in a rough manner!) If you can't hear the punp running a slight tap (With a Hammer) on the front may be the answer. This may or may not work. The proper way to do it is to remove the small cover and spin the rotar by hand. Since the pump has not been working for about six months it sometimes just get slightly stuck and a gentle Tap (Bang) might just be the answer. Jon4470
A tough choice between Alne and Pilmoor. In the end I’ll go for Pilmoor.... Junction for the Boroughbridge line, which, if still open, would be my closest station. Jon
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 26, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 26, 2020 Still no heating. The guy went to what he thought was a simple job, and found it wasn't. He's coming tomorrow morning though. Here's a couple more from on high. along the forecourt, and then the South end of the delapidated roof. Quite a nice view that, actually. 28
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted September 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2020 (edited) Hi Gilbert, Seeing that Bristol LS reminds me. When you visited last year I dug out a Bristol MW coach in Eastern Counties livery to give to you and then forgot to do so. Last week I thought "Ah the coach I was going to give Gilbert, must take it on Friday". It is still sitting where I placed it last year. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted September 27, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 27, 2020 Quite fresh in here today chaps. Hopefully that will change within a few hours, but until then I'm doing my Michelin man impression. RMweb Premium great northern Posted September 27, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 27, 2020 Not many votes in this poll, but Pilmoor got 3, nearly half of them, and wins. Today, we travel on from Newcastle to Edinburgh, to choose the most evocative wayside station on that spectacular route. Not Alnmouth though please, it has had its turn already. Plenty more to choose from though. Now we come to what I may have missed. Are there any more of the cross country lines which you would like to see included? There are plenty about which I know very little.
