OK - we're booked at the same venue (details below) on Saturday 11th June, 2011. Early days yet, but about 9 people have committed layouts and there will be trade representation again. I will keep you up to date as things happen. Show details: Trent Valley North American Modellers Venue: Armitage with Handsacre Village Hall, Shropshire Borook Rd, Armitage, Staffs, WS15 4UZ. Look forward to seeing that (presume it's YVT again?) - SOO in O sounds really impressive as well. B) I'm on the list as well with Alpha and a yet to be determined arrangement of other modules to make it work as a layout in it's own right and hopefully we'll get a layout designed to fit into whatever space that Nick has free! I think Neil Rogers is going to help me out on this one so I suspect Alpha will have a modern-ish Chicago suburban industrial vibe with IHB, CP (yes, more SOO line), CN (WC/IC) and probably a few other roads in evidence. It is YVT, and will be running early 1980's as i've not got round to finishing enough 1920's stock for it. Nick has kindly invited it, despite it not being finished. (I can already hear the cheers...! ) However, I did think - what about a small timesaver or Inglenook puzzle - 50p a go, quickest time or least number of moves, keep a leader board (a bit like on Top Gear's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car), proceeds either to: a) prize money; b ) charity; c) into the pot for the next show; or d) a combination of those. Time is ticking by now and still a lot of work to do. I have managed to finish ballasting the new section today. Got to get my skates on, as Nottingham weekend is getting even closer. A couple of questions to gauge opinion - My wife (who was behind the counter all day) is of the impression that last year there was a level of dissatisfaction with the catering and that people wanted more. Anybody any thoughts? Also, how much store do people put in an exhibition programme? I have some quotes and the cost is considerably more than last year. DaveB Posted March 3, 2011 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Nick I always have a pile of leaflets at exhibitions, describing the finer points of the layout I'm showing, together with contact details for anyone who needs more info. In a show such as TVNAM most punters have a pretty good idea of what they're viewing anyway, so I guess the added expense of a programme is something you couold well do without. Regarding catering - I thought there was plenty of choice last year - I don't go looking for a banquet - jus a snack to keep me going! 298 Posted March 3, 2011 Share Posted March 3, 2011 I can't remember exactly what the catering was like, but I would add (along the lines of the exhibition catering thread) that I wouldn't expect a three course dinner at a small specialist show, just as long as what you are doing is advertised so punters can bring their own lunch if necessary. Providing Sandwiches for general sale is a bit of a recipe for disaster, as you might end up eating nothing else for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for the next week. I'm not sure what is available locally, but have done shows further up the WCML where the catering was provided by the neighbouring Tesco. I think a program is a necessity tho, not only to provide fundamental layout information but also to act as a reference in the future. It doesn't have to be fancy or even have a floorplan, just a folded piece of A4 with a list of layouts and traders. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
