Evening Matt

I see you went for the low level platform after all then?

Yes Ian,

I salvaged some old platform edging and managed to buy some ramps last week and thought why not ?

Its only meant to be a request stop like Avoncliffe or Dilton Marsh so not alot of trains stop there even though there is a few passengers waiting !

The plan was to relay the single line branch with concrete-sleepered track but as ways I got carried away with the platform and as you can see it has already been ballasted so I'll probably leave it for now.

Many thanks to everyone who has shown an intrest. More pics and vids will follow, I'm not sure when but they will.

Cheers.

Now that we are well into 2013 its time for a few pics.

I reeled off about a hundred pics or so earlier on today but as ever only a very small handful are worth showing*, not much progress except for a few depatures and new arrivals (locos that is).

* Debatable.

Anyway I dedicate these pics to Minnie our lovable little moggie who sadly passed away on the 30th Jan 2012. R.I.P. Little Minns,

Hi Matt

Nice selection of pics, the layout is looking good and progressing well. Are you venturing out to the Warminster exhibition next Saturday 16th by chance, if you are, come and say hello as I'll be there with Leaford.

Hi Matt

Are you venturing out to the Warminster exhibition next Saturday 16th by chance, if you are, come and say hello as I'll be there with Leaford.

I didn't even know that there was a expo at Warminster. I could go as I have a rare Saturday off, I'll have to see what the wife has on the cards.

Many thanks for the kind comments, chaps.

On the agenda for Hallenby this year has to be the finishing of the ballasting on the high level, adding more trees and on the rolling stock front I'm thinking of getting some of those flashing tail light kits featured in the March issue of ModelRail as I think they look pretty good.

Hello again,

Over the last month or so there have been one or two alterations on the layout.

The single track branch line has been ripped up that serves platform 4 on the lower level and replaced with new sections of track

with an added passing loop.

The new track sections are all Peco Conctrete Flexi so this only leaves the double track mainlines that run through platforms 1 and

2 as being the old wooden style sleepered track, these tracks are the only original section left on the layout since I began over

The tracks serving platforms 1 and 2 are scheduled for replacement with concrete sleepers for 2014/15(ish).

Although I only relaid 10 lengths of track it has taken ages due to the cold weather (coldest March since 1962).

The new tracks have been weathered with a can of Sleeper Grime and a watered down version too, the ballast is

Woodland Scenics Medium Buff and static grasses have also been added with more to follow.

TBH I think I could have made a better job of the track-laying/ballasting and from the pics I have seen errant pieces

of ballast stuck to the inside of the rails. This shouldn't really pose a problem to remove its just a bit annoying.

Anyway lets have some pics.

Note to self : Don't bother using the Intellegent Auto feature on the camera as its not very good.

Below: After a spell of 4 weeks since Network Rail took posession of the branch the bus services have been replaced as

Platform 4 is now quite literally back on track. Two customers' are waiting for their service to arrive.

Hopefully the H and S brigade won't notice the lack of a ladder !

And finally I did mention earlier in the thread about these flashing tail lamps. Here's one of them fitted to a PNA (the other one is fitted in a MBA). The ballast load hides the battery and although a video would be better than a pic to show it off but this will have to do for now.

More pics later on, enjoy these for now and Happy Easter.

Cheers David,

A handful of pics of the high level station.

Below: The high level station is still a very busy place as we see 66209 on the loaded coals while 67018 hurries through platform 1 with a service for Taunton.

And a couple more of the latest developments.

Below: This time EWS 67001 has charge of the Enterprise and like 66846 before it unusally has gone through platform 4, maybe its not as rare as I thought.

And to finish off this edit a few snaps of my sole 37.

Hello again Matt,

You're a braver man than I, I've not been in the loft for 3 or 4 weeks now! I don't know why though as I have a heater that I obtained from work recently and I've not even tried it out yet. maybe tomorrow I'll venture up there.

There are various projects that I have waiting too but I can't spray paint in these temperatures. Pictures are great, any videos coming? I like how you seem to be constantly evolving the layout with small changes here and there, keep it up fella.

It's not just the cold loft but also lack of beer up there that upsets me, I've had to drink tea up there,(cold beer = even colder fingers) maybe I should buy a flask ?

No vids just yet, I had planned to what with my first Easter off for 10 years, well back to work on the Monday. This weather is a complete pain so vids will have to wait a while longer.

Also my planned trip to TrainWest in Melksham is off as I'm working that weekend.

Cheers Ian and Arnie.

Matt.

My trip is also cancelled, I'll be going to Wembley instead for the FA Cup Semi!

Have you tried gloves with the beer? ;)

Can't do much modelling with gloves on, LOL. Can't really play trains either with those little buttons on a DT400 !

Latics v Millwall eh ? It's not going to be pretty.

  • 2 weeks later...

I thought that I would post a new video on here of Platform 4 and the new passing loop.

I did intend to show the flashing tail lamps but I didn't get around to filming them, whoops !

Here we go, I hope the music isn't too bad for you all.

[

You can't beat a bit of AC/DC or should that be AC/DCC ?

Many thanks for watching and I'll try to remember about the tail lamps for the next vid :locomotive:
