I probably know him by sight but not by name! There are so many people that you see regularly but are never able to talk to and find out their names, also I am dreadful with remembering names. When the line is running normally I try to Guard around half the Real Ale Trains plus some daytime services. I also do some TTI (Travelling Ticket Inspector) duties so normally do between three and six duties a month.

Crikey! The floppy to USB converter thingy has arrived in the mail. It was posted on Saturday - in California. The expected delivery was Friday.

 

The 3D printer is printing a LH B7.5. Theoretically it should be "curvable". It says it will take 50 minutes but I suspect that's a bit optimistic. Also theoretically I have finished designing all the flippin' chairs complete with as much detail as they are ever going to get, but we'll see about that

I must have set out for the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix earlier than usual, as when I got there, there was nobody queueing so I was first in line. I even managed to get everything on the shopping list, the down side is I forgot to pick up my repeat prescription request form off the table before setting off. Anyway, as it was sunny, I decided to walk up to the pharmacy after dinner and I dropped it in.

 

The afternoon was then spent sat at the dining room table with paper and pencil drawing up the plans for the control panels. The next stage will be to transfer all the measurements onto a cutting plan to see how much wood I’ll need. I’m pretty certain that a single 8’ x 4’ sheet of 6mm ply (or possibly MDF) will be enough for all the 3 control panels.

CB they've been in London for decades but they are so dim they are very easy to spot because when they get off an escalator at an UndergrounD station they just stand around at the top or the bottom (depending in which way the escalator is goin) so the way of getting everybody behind them trying to get off the escalator.   And they don't like being rumbled either as they sometimes get quite upset if they hear you call them 'bl**dy Martians' as you try to shove your way past them.

 

One aside on the future of civil aviation.  Warren Buffett the head honcho of Berkshire Hathaway an investment concern in the USA and well known for being pretty cute when it comes to stock market investments had never been keen on aviation stocks.  But in the past four or five years he had built up holdings of 10% in three US airlines including Delta and America Airlines but he has now dumped the lot because he reckons that between them the US major airlines will be looking for something approaching $10 billion in loans and from shareholders when the new normal finally emerges.  And over the years he's had a pretty enviable record for getting it right.

The CAD software I use is pretty good but it makes some errors producing the 3D files to drive printers. I've tried a lot of different programs that are supposed to fix problems in 3D files with pretty variable results.

 

I just found out Windows 10 comes with 3D Builder which is supposed to be good at fixing 3D files. It is. It takes a while but, so far, the results are excellent. I was able to make a mirror copy of a left-hand turnout and convert it into a right-hand turnout without a problem. That's something I've never been able to d in the past.

 

The RH versions is printing as I'm typing.

Today was cleaning day.

SWMBO went out of the house as far as the front stoop to pick up the papers. I walked to the mail box to get the ads for pizza and chain saws (duplicate of last week but different store). Pizza order would do 2 of us for several days.

Tomorrow is bins day.

I decided to repair the roof on an old coach that had fallen. The putty seemed to work OK but my supply of white paint had all gone off (or just gone) so I tried Aged White which looks just a bit paler than GWR cream. And not that opaque.

The number of idiots in cars is increasing,  I know they are idiots because they get to the road junction outside and see the road junction has a "no parking  at the beach"sign. They then stop and sit for a while. Then realise they should have taken the previous tiny road,  so they turn round.  If they were local they'd know. 

 

I have to go into town to drop off the next prescription forms,  therefore a visit to TES and Co  will also be included. The list on the fridge is getting long.. 

 

The remaining parcels for shed are still wandering Germany.. 

 

I see it's raining again in Saudi,  in the six years I was there I saw rain twice... 

 

Wintry showers forecast for the weekend,  with a very chilly northerly,  bonfire time I think..

Today is Cinco de Mayo - the Mexican/American drinking holiday - think St. Pat's day with tequila and/or cerveza instead of Guinness. It's also "taco Tuesday".

 

Since I just finished off the third portion of beef tacos I prepared last Thursday, I shan't be having those, though the possibility of fish tacos (using frozen fish) exists.

 

It ostensibly celebrates a thoroughly irrelevant Mexican victory in the 1862 Battle of Puebla over the invading army of the second French Empire in the "Second French intervention in Mexico". The French would go on to capture Mexico City, much like the US did in 1847.

 

Being largely excuse to go to a Mexican restaurant/bar, I don't think it will be widely celebrated in lockdown.

After our fourth driest April on record we've had three consecutive days with rain (which the garden appreciated). Despite mild temperatures and showers in the immediate forecast (18°C on Wednesday), by the weekend we are presently forecast to see our hottest weather since last August - almost 30°C on Saturday.

Any source of a smile is much appreciated at the moment and two things made me smile yesterday.  The first was the arrival of the latest “Railway Bylines”.  I am not one to blow my own trumpet but I was rather surprised to find two of my contributions in it.  I wrote them in July 2018 and had forgotten all about them!  The second, of rather wider appeal, was the news item about Lucy the mother goose who has made her nest and laid a clutch of eggs in a planter at York station.  I think it’s great to have animal stories in the headlines, though I would have preferred a happier ending to the tale of Lewis the koala who was rescued from the New South Wales bush fires six months ago by a brave lady called Toni Doherty.  Sadly Lewis was put to sleep because his extensive burns got worse.  However, the video went viral, doing much to raise public awareness of koalas and their problems.  Check it out on YouTube.  The sound of Lewis crying with pain is haunting.

 

Flavio, thank you for your insight into the present day gym.  I would rather energise myself by other means, if they exist.  I am rather scared of what might happen if I start working out at my age and with my zero fitness level.  Furthermore, I do not want to give a certain person the satisfaction of knowing that I have resorted to the gym!  If I do as you suggest I can see myself asking him for advice.  As for my knee, I accept the wisdom of seeing a professional but that is easier said than done.  To get an appointment with anyone at doctor level or above it is a good idea in these parts to be registered at birth.

 

I should make the most of those smiles, for there is ironing to be done today which is unlikely to generate much happiness.
