RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2021 I do have some stock - with no relevance - from deceased modellers, as a mark of remembrance and respect. Some US stuff from a huge layout I dismantled and arranged sale of stock over 2 years, and from this forum I have some of Dave Shakespeare's coaches. It's just...nice...to have them to look at occasionally, and remember folk by. I will buy something from my friend, if and when he starts selling things. No doubt he'll want to give them to me, but he will leave a wife who may well need the money in the future so I will insist on paying. 4

Sadly not as worn carbon brushes had created so much heat from arcing due to wear, that the housing had melted. In any case, they looked as though they were never intended to be replaceable - where's the sense in that? 5 hours ago, leopardml2341 said: ... new belt sander duly ordered. Pleased to spot a copy of the excellent "Architectural Modelling" by Dave Rowe peaking out on one of your shelves although I must deduct one mark for "Neatness on parade" of the aforementioned publication as it is not standing perfectly vertical and is, for want of a better expression, poking out a bit I'm still wondering, do I need a Union Flag alongside my bookcases? They seem to be de rigueur these days in the media .... Alan 16

It surprises me how common this is - at least for people on television from their homes. It seems to be either a conceit of those who fancy their bookshelves more as backdrop than usefulness or some weird inclination for 'books as props for interior design'. Unsurprisingly the internet is full of examples (and magazine articles) debating the 'trend'. (Of course on the Marie Kondo / decluttering end of the decorating spectrum there would be one singular nick nack that "sparks joy" and all the books would be in the bin.) 16
Erichill16
Evening All, watched the match, did a bit of paperwork to the extent that a vat return can be submitted tomorrow and took mil for a walk. Bit of snow first thing but sunny most of the day but cold wind. I have considered my departure and it gives me shivers to think of what may happen to my ‘bits’. People know some stuff is valuable whilst some isn’t but they can’t tell/know which they are. Sometime I’ll work something out. Got to go into work tomorrow so early night tonight so goodnight, Robert ps Dave, I hope your dad makes a full recovery. 14

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2021 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Si Attica has just had a right go at me. I made it up to the bed to lay stretched out but that didn't make any difference so I came downstairs intending to sign off and switch off the computer. But before I could do that my bladder insisted on being relieved. So it was a crawl, literally, up the stairs for that. I then decided to take a rest before going downstairs again. I had just laid down when I rolled over and Si Attica decided to depart. As I understand it sciatica is caused by the sciatic nerve getting trapped so I must have moved in a certain way to un-trap the nerve. No doubt I'm completely wrong and Flavio will put me right. At least I have recovered quickly which is more than Daves dad can do and Neils friend will not be able to do. 1
simontaylor484
Thoughts are with our members with troubles. My Mrs says when i snuff it all my books are going in the garden in a heap along with a match. Last year pre lockdown i did manage to cull the collection by a few boxes to ziffit. I am a bit of a hoarder of stuff "that may be useful at some point" but that is getting out of hand. The garage abd spare bedroom really need a good clearout skipsized clearout. Then there is also the bulk buy stuffin the understair cupboard that really needs stocktaking thats toilet roll soap powder/liquid dishwasher tablets and salt and dry doggy food. The wilko not stocked shelves and various bogof or vouchers been the culprit 1 1

Popular Post pH
A few pictures from yesterday's walk in the local woods. The year's first trillium: A skunk cabbage: They do smell like a skunk - which means, if you smell that smell, you have three possible sources around here - a skunk, skunk cabbage, or 'skunk'. And a prolific and nicely-coloured fungus: . 26

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2021 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Si Attica is keeping quiet at the moment but I might have to venture into the loft to top up the central heating system until I get the leaking radiator removed and the pipes capped. Just keeping fingers crossed that he doesn't awake while I'm on the ladder. And with that I bid you all goodnight. 4

RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2021 I wonder what kind of idiot sorts their bookshelves by the clour of teh spine of the book? presumably somebody who doesn't read? i just had a quick look at the smaller format 'Welsh railways' books in the study bookcase and there are over 20 different colours/combinations of colours on their spines. The larger format 'Welsh railways' books are on two different shelves and there are probably even more combinations in those when you ra take into account titles and wrap round photos on dust jackets. Overall the differences mean i can pick out books on, say, the TVR, or the RR, or the Western Valleys at a glance and as far as WR Sectional Appendixes are concerned it's easy to tell which year they were issued just by looking at the colour of the spine so no need to pull them out in order to find the right date when i'm checking stuff or looking for information stuff. When colours don't vary it does mean having to remember which one is the most faded - for example I have three copies of the 1960 Block Regulations in a row with a copy of the 1972 issue and it would be a right nuisance o if they were all exactly the same shade because I do refer to all of them wehen checking differences or amendment dates. I suppose it all comwes down to whether or not you use your books or just gawp at the shelves? 20
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2021 (edited) Good evening everyone I’ve made quite a bit of progress in the garden today. I’m just about at the halfway point with regard to removing the old path. It seems to be getting easier as I progress towards the patio and house. I do hope that it continues in that fashion, if the weather stays kind to me this week, I’m hoping to have it all done by the the weekend. I can then order the plants for the camomile path, all 250 of them, although I may order a few extra, just in case. I’ll then turn my attention towards finishing painting the brace of chairs that are currently waiting sat in the cellar. Once I’ve finished them, I’ll order a skip and whilst waiting for it to be dropped off, I can then make a start on pulling down the cellar ceiling. A big mucky job that I’ve put off long enough. Once that little jobs done, I can put all the rubble from the path and the ceiling in the skip, which will save me doing a several dozen trips to the tip. It seems all of a sudden, things are progressing at a rapid rate. Thoughts with both Neil and Dave. Edited April 5, 2021 by BSW01 22

Fascinating. (Not the 'trend', but the obsession with getting noticed via Instagram.) The internet - the great "democratizer" of narcissism. 10 6
