My late father always insisted on two things namely that we observe Mother’s Day and suitably fête ours and that we never ever stoop to the blatant commercialism of Father’s Day.

Likewise; I regard it as a horrible transatlantic import and don't expect, or get, anything from Martyn.  His older brother does remember his (late) actual father on this day

Moaning awl.

Still far too warm a night for sleeping comfortably. Also, some indigestion had struck last night. Though on the upside, it's raining at long last, so, ajar did the windows go! 😇

Enjoy whatever you're up to...

Good morning all,

Lovely sunny day here and it should stay like that without getting too hot.

Rugby watched yesterday.  Oops, the less said about that the better.

I haven't got a problem with Father's Day and am always very touched by the lovely comments and gifts that my offspring produce each year.  They're told it's not necessary but say they do it because they want to.   That's fine by me.

I may well decide to wash the car today as it's filthy after the Sahara rain the other day.  However a decision will be made after breakfast.  My neck is still very painful so maybe the exercise will kill it or cure it.

Have a good one,

Bob.

Morning all

Whitby is like other seaside towns blighted by the number of second homes, they have recently voted against allowing new ones

I think the place turns in to a ghost town come the end of October

@BlackRat replace the blackcurrant with peppermint cordial then you are talking

Good advice, Winslow Boy!  I did exactly that and found a strawberry plant separate from the bed and bearing four ripe fruits.  Thus encouraged, I ripped out some more weeds until the rain acted as a deterrent.

Thee was also an alarm and an excursion yesterday.  The alarm came when the TV remote control failed.  The excursion was to Curry's in search of suitable batteries.  They had them in stock but I had to buy many more than the two I needed.  All I have to do now is put the remainder in a safe and memorable place.

Chris

Mine are in an old ice cream box- the round one litre type, in the telephone cabinet in the hall. The ones I forget are the used up ones which are near the kitchen door in the vain hope that I will remember to take them when I go shopping. I never do so the box is somewhat full!

Good morning everyone

A bright, but cloud start to the day here in the northwest corner of England. I have an appointment at the surgery mid morning, for a blood pressure test and blood letting! So the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix will be undertaken a little later than usual. After that there are no firm plans for the rest of the day, so some reading and research may be done.

Now, this may be heretical to some but I don’t like whiskey, whisky, pernod or gin! However, I do like vodka, rum, both dark and white and I especially like tequila. I prefer them all neat, but will add orange juice to tequila now and then.

Back later.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. I have plenty of batteries, and ball point pens. This is because when I visit Tess Coes I check out the reduced to clear (none food items) to see what is available. There I often find packs of batteries or pens where someone has taken one or two out and put the pack back on the shelf. A pack with one or two missing will usually be half price and with me being tighter than a ducks @r$e which is watertight it suits me fine. Only thing is I now have so many pens and batteries that they will outlast me. I keep the pens in a pencil case and the batteries in a wooden box.

Morning, from a sunny rock 22c no less!

Ah rum, yes, Barbados versions in my case.  I went to college with a guy from Barbados, apparently one of the 2% white 'Bajans', he used to bring stuff back - yum.  He had us drink it with lime and soda for a long drink, while I seldom drink now it is an occasional treat.

Long list of 'honey-do's' today, so I had better get on with them.  The price of early retirement.

Currently at Kerridge’s Bar & Grill enjoying a superb Sunday Lunch. The food is AMAZING! The prices? Very affordable for the level of quality and culinary expertise (although those with nervous wallets are advised not to view the menu on-line).

And whilst on the topic of affordable and our favourite tipple - whisky - I saw this in a Whisky Merchant’s window whilst walking to the restaurant.

I didn’t dare ask “how much”

Just looked at the A La Carte menu. What are 'invisible chips'? £8.

As is now usual I went to church yesterday for the morning service.  On the way out I was asked if I would go back to being a server and doing readings and prayers now that I am able to go to services regularly again, so I should soon be back on the rota.  Sadly the 8a.m. service is no more, I normally acted as server and the readings every week before Covid.

Then I checked the flat and brought back more useful things and realised that I need to get some more storage boxes for the remaining things I have to bring home.

After that tried out the washing line and found it works well, though it would be better if there weren't a couple of tallish plants in the way - in due course they will be moved, for now I will take care when putting out the clothes.

I spent the afternoon putting up some pictures I brought home and taking down some of mine which I no longer really like.  I even remembered that watercolours and needleworks fade in direct sunlight so have put drawings and oil paintings where they get sun shining on them.

I had to put some stakes in for some of the sweet peas which are growing up the very edges of the netting to help support them.  Then it was time for the usual Sunday phone calls to friends and relatives while I had some tea.

A pleasant and quite relaxing day,

David

I also wondered that. Possibly even more expensive than my Antipodea portion which cost £4.50 for just seven chips.

Good morning all.  In order of priority:-

the sloshing machine (which is a matter of weeks old) has carped itself. The laundry is locked inside, some water has entered because the soap has gone from the tray but all the lights flash, the control buttons do nothing, the cycle will neither start nor release and even powered down the door stays locked. A person is coming tomorrow to investigate.

Dr. SWMBO feels unwell with symptoms of a heavy cold but do far tests negative for the Dreaded Lurgy. I have instructions to purchase some shopping for her on my way home but to avoid close contact. My tests are also negative and I have no symptoms.

I’ll just echo the national message here without further comment - don’t attempt to travel by rail this week unless you (a) have no choice and must travel AND (b) have checked first to see whether your journey can be made at all.
