There's a chance of some showers along with the odd bright spell. 3°C now and might reach 8°C. Had quite a good and relaxing day yesterday which included a visit to The Shed and some tidying up in there. Steve came at lunchtime and we had a catch up over a pint and finalised arrangements for our boy's day out on Tuesday. Rugby watched as usual in the afternoon followed by a very nice beef casserole and then watched Endeavour in the evening. Breakfast is imminent and then plans will be made for the rest of the day. I've already got an idea what I'm going to do but that may well will almost certainly differ from what Herself wants so we may well be going our separate ways today. Have a good one, Bob. Just remember young man that parting usually involves reconnecting so don't say anything that might at some point be used against you. 1 1
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted March 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2023 Good morning everyone Well it’s wet, very wet, here in England’s northwest corner, but at least it’s stopped raining. The temperature here is currently 4C and expected to rise to 7C later. My first task this morning is to complete the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix , after that not a lot, although there is a click and collect return to go to John Lewis at some time, so I may do this this afternoon. Back later. Brian

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted March 6, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 6, 2023 Well in the end we did not go our separate ways. At first The Boss had stated she didn't want to go for a walk as she "had too much to do." When I said I was going anyway she then decided to accompany me. I did well today as a mile and three quarters was managed with no real discomfort. This bodes well for my day out tomorrow as there will be lots of walking involved. 16
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2023 Just emptied the washing machine. Being very old my washing machine requires a lot of electricity so I've been trying different programs. I realised I was wasting power by setting it on the prewash so I set it on 'fast colours'. As a consequence I'm saving more than a £1 per wash. 14
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted March 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 6, 2023 Just had a recurrence of this mornings episode. My leg started to give way and I had to grab the kitchen worktop to steady myself. It seems to be centred on my hip that is affected by arthritis and was brought on by my standing still for too long.
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted March 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 6, 2023 A'noon, much ado about....well washing really. Ugh. Phil, I get that occasionally when walking, the leg just 'goes'- as my hips are arthritic although not badly so, although I have had surgery for impingement I put it down to wear and tear. My hips have certainly been very painful this last week, with the high pressure and cold damp winds. I had to hit the co-codamol big time last night with two prescription level bombs but I did have a reasonable (by my standards - I'm a bit like Q) night. Not much else going on, although my favourite old bike magazine has just popped onto the doormat so that will be interspersed with washing, dusting and polishing duties this afternoon. Wx report is 7c feels like 2c according to the app-o-mometer, showers, which have been apparent. Feels like -2 to me, a quick walk down to the garage to continue weathering those chuffers was abandoned very quickly. Lets hope the bear gets some help with his paw, wow an actual appointment..... 18 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted March 6, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 6, 2023 This morning is a bit cooler, the barometer has dropped a lot and there are little gaps in the clouds. Yesterday was an "interesting" day or if you prefer a "curate's egg" day. During my morning phone calls and e mails I heard that two friends I haven't seen recently have died and another has just been diagnosed with Alzheimers. None of them are more than a few years older than me. Then at church it was extremly sad to see a lady whose husband died very recently crying quietly during the service, a couple of other ladies she knows sat with her and comforted her when it became apparent. Afterwards I went to the beach and had a walk and cheered myself up, followed by a nice coffee and biscuits at home. In the afternoon I used the new convertor from Amazon to copy a tape from the old video camera to the laptop, it worked well producing an output in DVD format as I expected. I then realised that as it was my older laptop it still had the software on I used to use when copying some of my homemade DVDs to mp4 to keep on my hard drives. So converting it to the format I wanted was easy. A few tweaks will be needed in due course but I managed to get a good output resolution and colour and maintained the oriignal 4:3 format. I need to think some more about the audio quality but that is a bit less important as small home video cameras about twenty years ago were very good at picking up wind noise which can overpower the sounds I would like to hear! I also converted an old DVD to mp4 which has sharpened the image a lot. I notice that the video is a lot sharper when cast to my TV than when I look at it in the laptop. The nice thing is that once set up you can leave the laptop alone to do its job and go away and get on with something else. I finished it all after tea, while the laptop was working I sat quietly catching up on magazines. Then the evening became a bit less pleasant. Over the weeks since I had my polyps dealt with I have been doing "experiments" to see exactly what I can now eat as my gut is working a lot better and can tolerate much more fibre. So I have been trying to find how much fibre is OK. If I have 50:50 bread I can eat most other foods containing fibre. I decided I should try some wholemeal bread so over the last few weeks I have kept to a set menu, the same each week while just changing bread. To put it simply wholemeal bread does me no good - Day 1 seems OK, day 2 gives me flatulence as the day progresses. If you don't like reading about gut issues avoid the next bit. Then towards the end of day 2 and into day 3 I notice I am passing food that has not been fully digested. I also simply feel unwell. Yesterday evening I was watching Endeavour when I suddenly had a sense of impending doom, as though the world was about to end, a number of muscles in my lower chest and abdomen contracted and I had the feeling of a snake moving around inside me. It is the second time it has happened, so I am now going to avoid wholemeal bread. From other little experiments with my diet it seems to be specifically wholemeal bread, it seems that when I eat it I cannot digest other foods and it breaks down leaving sharp fibres which cause extra irritation. After all that I went to bed and had a poor night's sleep with several unpleasant dreams. It always surprises me how much influence the gut has over the rest of the body - though that seems to be in line with the latest research. Today I am about back to normal, the remaining wholemeal bread is in the bin. David
RMweb Premium The White Rabbit Posted March 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2023 Yes, hope we'll have some good news from @polybear + @jamie92208 (x 2). Mind you, I get the impression I should be sending positive thoughts and best wishes to quite a few ERs at the moment. @DaveF and @PhilJ W on this page alone. So generic wishes and good vibes to all those in need. Re mice and @Grizz's photos, we had a little visitor a few years ago, he/she wasn't particularly camera shy either. I got within a few feet without it showing any particular concern and got some frames and even a video. I was going to upload a frame but looking at the image, I realised I've done that already, I recall an ER replying and said he now knew the name of a plant he'd seen a lot of (Herb Robert). Chilly today, though the sun's out. For us, the white stuff is forecast for Wednesday/Thursday night onwards. One 'wildlife' photo today, also from a few years ago, when the local blackbird was very much 'the resident' blackbird and while not tame, was happy to co-exist with us in close proximity.

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 6, 2023 Afternoon Awl, The four wooden pads for BM were varnished and are now drying. I'm going to be using a tablet computer as a timer for racing, I've found a free programme that has the advantage of also displaying a compass direction, and position. Later you can check other pages and it will show your track , and other details.. So for the tablet mount, I've got the phone mount mentioned the other day and a waterproof holder for the tablet. I matched them up and sometime this week can now make an adapter for one to fit the other. Took Ben for his long walk, we managed to avoid rain and drizzle which is something it's been taking and drizzling for the rest of the day. I had intended on working on the hall floor, but I was feeling rough on return from the walk. So instead I've finished sewing the jib.. I'm happy it'll do the job. But any sailmaker will be very unhappy with my sewing. Time to rest the ocular instruments.

When I first was sent to Bart’s Gastroenterology Department about 20 years ago they were very involved in research on bowel conditions. Having IBS and IBD was interesting for them. I contributed cell samples and tried out some medications they thought should work. The good bit for me was they completely cleared up the IBS element. For the IBD (ulcerative colitis) I just need to keep taking the tablets! Foodstuffs that caused terrible problems no longer do,except for figs, but they affect lots of people. Anything I don’t eat now is because I don’t like it rather than it not liking me. I don’t eat a lot of sweet or salty things due to other health issues . Ian Abel
Morning... Slow weekend, especially to start. Mrs still under the weather and as a result not doing much other than resting. Jemma returned from Frankfurt late afternoon and stayed for dinner Saturday as well as picking up Whitney. Sunday we did manage a "birthday brunch" for me at Trevor and Meagans. Delightful especially since all I had to do was transport myself and the Mrs over there 🙂 Then in the evening we had a Zoom happy hour with our friends in Arizona. I'm officially DONE with snow this winter, got 3-4 inches overnight, heavy/wet and then the city plow rolled by a couple of hours ago and basically blocked our driveway, until our snow removal guy gets over here 😒 NOT HANDY as the Mrs is supposed to go over and feed/check on Meagans dogs around noon. -1c first thing searching for the newspaper in the snow - did find it - high of 2c expected with snow off and on most of the day. Bah... onward. 11
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted March 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 6, 2023 So far I've done over 6000 steps and not seem to have done a lot. Just walking round the garden and shed seem to keep the count up. The irrigation system was nearly fixed but I found that the top 1000l tank was empty when I had left it full. The one at the other end of the hose, that actually catches the rainwater was full to the brim.. I doh moment and I realised that the water had all syphoned back down hill via the hose and pump. Lesson learned for the future and no water lost. I've pumped it all back up again today and removed the hose from the top tank. Then a phone call to Sleazyjets baggage and lost property handlers at Bordeaux. Sadly no one has handed in a Samsung TabA6. That's been written off to experience. Fortunately I've lost very little stuff apart from some downloads that I can replace. Photos are all still on my camera or laptop. Emails are on gmail etc. So after consultation with the domestic authorities I set off to the Danglies to buy two new tablets, hers is 4 yrs old and starting to slow down. Only one in stock at Darty so came back home and tried the interweb. That went fine till I tried to pay in Euros. Credit Agricole's system has my tablet registered to it so that didn't work. I eventually managed to pay with my Virgin Money debit card. Anyway whilst at The Danglies I got the two 40mm pipe joiners that I needed and two collecting tanks are now piped up so if it does rain tomorrow we will start to get water in them. What you might call a day of faffing around but things have got done. Jamie

The secret was the lack of humidity - only 15%, I've rarely seen it that low, it was comfortable enough that I came home and cut the grass because it had dropped to 36 and felt positively cool and nice to be out in.
