Hroth
@iL Dottore The Microlino seems a bit too "urban hipster" and having your feet in the crumple zone, especially with so many Chelsea Tractors about in its proposed environment, is rather offputting. Also, it sounds too much like an electric milk float! A vehicle with a bit more tin around the occupants and similar range sounds a lot more preferable. At least the SUV crowd might spot you sooner! Coming to the UK in the same timeframe as the Microlino, with its earlier incarnation having sold about 140,000 in Europe. Although I intend to keep Yeti as long as I can before it starts to decay, if I still need a car a Spring, or something similar is something I'd be considering. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 13 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 13 (edited) the microlino is not a car but a quadricycle, not crash tested version of a 4 wheel motor cycle. Mooring Awl, 4 and a bit hours sleep, long awake 2 and a bit hours sleep. What's good though is whatever was upsetting my back has returned to it's correct place. Other than feeling bruised, I'm moving around well. My only lifting this week has just occurred, I brought in a bag of coal. The coal is heavy, it's very wet , they must have bagged it under water.. Ben the noisy Collie. Ran out of the house barking, at what I have no idea, as I didn't see anything unusual. Other than that it was just a normal patrol except I didn't need a woolley hat. It's quite warm out there. I see the Norwich busses have gone all electric , the double deckers that is, the single deckers by the end of the year. This will make a big difference in Norwich because the most polluted roads were where the busses ran , especially round the castle where only busses and taxis can go. It will be interesting to see how they cope with the long distance runs though, such as Norwich to Kings Lynn to Peterborough especially in the winter when heating is needed. Not that I can use them though, id have to walk Over a mile to get to the nearest bus stop, then get the bus.. or 4 changes of bus 6 hours 8 minutes each way, for a capped cost of £32 return. Against 2 hours 25 minutes each way driving, for 3 and a bit gallons of petrol. Plans for today, Build the box stand for the radar museum, Replace the second outside light. Muddling. But first Time for a muggacoffee. Edited March 13 by TheQ

What the Chinese are doing in this area is quite eye-opening. They are building a lot of different micro and mini-EVs: they are not very fast (mostly < 70kph) and they don’t have an extensive travel range (often under 150km) - but that’s not the point - they are designed to zip around town, park anywhere and charge rapidly. You can get a little electric car if that is your want, and still go for sporty. Edited March 13 by monkeysarefun 5

Against 2 hours 25 minutes each way driving, for 3 and a bit gallons of petrol Public transport is not always a viable option. We are blessed with an hourly daily route into town for, currently, £2 each way. That was reduced from the previous £6 each way or £9 return but ridership is virtually unchanged. Over the years all the large supermarkets and homeware stores have moved to out-of-town sites not reached by our bus. They are within walking distance of other buses but that’s another £2 each way and up to another hour to wait as well. It’s not that easy bringing a week’s shopping and / or what ever else I’ve been in for on the bus. Ten foot-square garden pavers? Four sacks of lawn dressing? And the dry-cleaning. For such things the Little Red Driving Box earns its keep. We are fortunate, being a small quite isolated town, to even have that level of service. Many regional areas now have next to nothing in the way of public transport. I never had the opportunity to address questions to The Unkempt One when he was Head of London and then Head of the UK and suggesting we walked or cycled everywhere. He of course went everywhere in a chauffeur-driven limousine. Me? I could have cycled to work but that would have taken around 2 hours each way compared with 30 minutes by train or 90 by bus. I had to present myself in clean tidy uniform (how do I get that to work uncreased? It won’t fit in a backpack on the bike). And work was not one of those places which offered staff showers. Not even private changing; the only option was in the toilet cubicle. I would have had to leave home at 03.30 for an 06.00 start. In any weather. No thanks Boris. There are times and places for each mode of transport. The private car can be reasonably avoided sometimes but it remains the best option most of the time for us. That was not the case Upon the Hill of Strawberries where we decided a car wasn’t even needed but where one dropped into our laps at a time when it was very convenient. We could live here without ever leaving town. Some folk do just that. But it would curtail certain activities we enjoy and it would - in thus day and age - generate an increase in van-mile deliveries to our door. 20

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted March 13 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 13 Happy Birthday Neil, hope you have a good day. It was nice this morning to wake up and find it is mild 12°C outside so the heating only came on for a short while. There is even a bit of blue and the wind has moved to the west which is much better though it was strong enough to wake me during the night as things rattled about outside. The garden wheelie bin men have been, they must have been early as it was empty by the time I got up just after 08.00. Lousie should come shortly do the housework for me, while she does that I will work on some photos. I have some to send off for possible publication in a magazine. Sometime today I need to go to a pharmacy to get a couple of things, if the wind isn't too strong I may also have a short walk. Then it will be more of the usual,- modelmaking, reading, YouTube, TV -except I can't find anything to watch on live TV today. I shall be very pleased once I am able to go out for a day somewhere - I won't try yet as I do not want to trip, slip or anything else and pull on the repair. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 13 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 13 (edited) On the subject of Land Rovers there used to be a wide choice of alternatives but most if not all had gone before the 'proper' Defender. https://www.goodwood.com/grr/road/news/2020/7/seven-4x4s-inspired-by-the-land-rover-defender--axons-automotive-anorak/ The best IMHO was the Santana PS-10 and the later Iveco Massif derivative, both derived from the Land Rover. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 13 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 13 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Another good night last night, 5+2 hours altogether. I woke up about five but not due to the usual suspects, decided it was too early and dozed on. Must do some shopping today, right out of milk and eggs and I need to stock up on a few other things. Looking forward to another Zoom talk tonight, on the Regents Canal, should be interesting. 16 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted March 13 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 13 Good morning everyone First off, happy birthday Neil @New Haven Neil, have a good day. Today is a bit of a MIUAIGA day, as I’m waiting delivery of some point kits for my model railway, they are expected to be delivered before 1pm. I do want to go to get some more glue for the cellar, but that will probably be done tomorrow, after I’ve dropped Sheila off at her Zumba class and been to the tip to get rid of a box off flooring and other wood waste and offcuts. So today I’ll be mostly doing some unspecified pottering and general tidying up etc. Back later, have a good un’ Brian 21

I don’t believe a single word of it. “It wasn’t my fault”, “I was seduced by a donut” - and the all-time favourite “I only ate a piece to be polite” are not words that can legitimately claim to be anything but feeble excuses when uttered by a patisseriephile like PB. Now all we need is PB to write… ”I only noticed that it had fallen into my basket at checkout - and then there were too many people waiting behind me, so I couldn’t take it back” ”it was the end of the day and it had been reduced to Xp, it would have been a crime to leave it on the shelf and have it thrown away” “I only bought it ‘cos XXXXX was coming ‘round for tea. I completely forgot that yesterday he said he couldn’t come” And we’ll have the full set! Edited March 13 by iL Dottore 2 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted March 13 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 13 Aditi saw our GP yesterday morning. GP thought the skin blemish she was concerned about was nothing nasty but would like it inspected by a dermatologist. A text about the referral arrived while we were driving home. There was a phone call this morning with an appointment for next Tuesday. Our local NHS seems quite efficient. Tony

I've not seen the current one on any form of transport but I did see him at the JP Morgan corporate challenge one year where he was going to be running the 3.5 miles. 16 2
