danstercivicman
Hi folks, Here as promised are a few pics of the latest addition to the WW fleet - humdrum Large Logo 47459. As most of my Large Logo fleet consists of Scottish-based named examples, I thought it was about time I did an anonymous non-Scottish 47. As I've seen some footage of Bescot-based 47459 working on Fife services, this seemed a good loco to choose. Here she is passing Haymarket MPD on her way to Waverley from Dundee with a rake of six ScotRail Mk 1s. That looks like an inspection saloon waiting at the signals on the far left. 47459 7.jpg She later worked back to Dundee on the return working... 47459 1.jpg 47459 2.jpg 47459 3.jpg 47459 4g.jpg 47459 6a.jpg 47459 9.jpg Work has now started on a Dapol Class 122. So far the unit has been test-run and the roof ribs have been removed. Masking and respraying of the roof and painting of the floor to hide the elevated base to the interior are next on the list. Cheers for now, Dave I'm really struggling to tell whether these are pictures of the model or of the real thing. The only thing suggesting it is a model is the driver hasn't moved.... If it is the model it is absolutely life like!
Popular Post Waverley West
Thanks guys. Very kind! Here's another that slipped through the net. Slightly different lighting with this one, as 47459 departs for Dundee... Cheers Dave
RMweb Premium 45156 Posted July 18, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 18, 2017 This has to be about the most reaistic blue diesel layout that I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Popular Post Waverley West
Hi folks There seems to be a lot of 47/4 activity around Waverley just at the moment. New kid on the block 47641 Fife Region put in an appearance this evening... While 47459 was still working Fife services... (Note to self - Must straighten that platform canopy on Platform 19!) Managed to mask and spray the 122 this evening too, so I'm making good progress with that just at the moment. Cheers for now, Dave

Popular Post Waverley West
Hello dear friends, Well, it's been a long while since I last posted anything. It's been a busy summer for various reasons, so modelling time has been at a premium, but I have been working away on a few projects which I can spend a few minutes at a time on now and then and some more Bachmann 47/4s are now nearing completion, this time in ScotRail and InterCity liveries - 47406, 47461 and 47541 and two 47/7s (47710 and 47714), plus 47492 Enterprising Scot for Mark (MRDBlue17). I've become pretty efficient at readying Bachmann 47s for service now. More on those later, but in the meantime here are a few shots of newcomer 47563 Women's Guild at Platform 15, waiting to leave for Inverness with a rake of Mk 1 and 2 stock... ...and here are some shots of another newcomer, blue-roofed Large Logo Inverness-based 47517 Andrew Carnegie, again on an Inverness turn from Platform 15... As you can see, I still haven't got around to straightening the canopy over on Platform 18/19. In other news, the Class 122 is now completed and in service. Hope to be back soon with some shots of that plus the other new 47s. With the completion of the latest batch of 47s, I will be looking to move on to a Large Logo 37/4 plus another Coal Sector 26. After that, WW's loco fleet will be more or less complete for the time-being (yeah, right Dave) and I intend to go back to working on the layout. Having said that, appearing on the horizon is the possible complete replacement of my Mk 2 air-conditioned and Mk 3 stock, which could prove expensive, so I had better get saving. There are plenty of plans afoot for the layout, so watch this space. Cheers for now, Dave Edited September 1, 2017 by Waverley West
RMweb Premium keefer Posted September 1, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 1, 2017 good to see you back, dave. great pics as usual, that first one is so good - only the distance between the buffers gives it away. I take it that's an RMB next to 563 - about the last 'proper' buffet car to grace ScR trains, soon gave way to the trolley-equipped mk1 & 2s (HSTs excepted - though even with those, the buffet either opened (southbound) or closed (northbound) at Edinburgh!)
RMweb Gold russ p Posted September 1, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 1, 2017 Been missing updates, fantastic pictures again Dave. Is it natural lighting? You seem to get more than average sunshine for Cumbria, I had a room at moor row for a year in 97/98 and it seemed to rain every day

SparxD428
The level of detail is just unbelievable Dave, just love all the new photo's. Have been following your thread for years and just loving every part of this layout. Cheers Stu
RMweb Premium 45156 Posted September 4, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 4, 2017 Dave, these latest pics are just the dog's wotsits, The realism is quite stunning. I still hope that one of these days we can meet up and I can see just how that is achieved.
meanach
This is what it was like 5 1/2 years ago when we first arrived here, with the layout still to have its protective cages removed. Since then it's been insulated, plastered, centrally heated, had new windows and a new door fitted and a new carpet (which I'm doing a pretty good job of ruining with solder, glue, etc. etc.) to make a pretty decent railway room. It was crazily expensive to heat using electric heaters and often either too cold or too hot in the early days, but now it's comfortable just about year-round, including all through the winter thanks to the central heating. Oh what a difference that made. It even copes pretty well with the relentless heat of a Cumbrian summer too. As the room measures 6 x 5m, I'd probably have made WW a bit larger had I started the layout in this room, but at least I have some good-sized fiddle yards instead. The only downside to the room is that I have to go outside to get to it, which in the middle of winter when it's pouring down is a bit of a pain, especially if I'm carrying locos or rolling stock, but I really should not complain I know! Railway room 0.jpg Cheers Dave Well there's always room for an extension !!
Popular Post Waverley West
Hi folks, Nipped down to Waverley late this afternoon to see what was about. On Platform 13, a Class 122 leading a 108 was preparing to head for Fife... Newcomer 47714 arrived from Glasgow on a push-pull... And, finally, 08421 was parked up, resting between duties... Work is continuing on the other Bachmann 47s. More to follow soon I hope. Cheers for now, Dave Edited September 13, 2017 by Waverley West

MRDBLUE17
Hi Dave you were lucky to catch the sunlight at Waverley. When I drove home from work over the top I was on the edge of a black cloud and you could see the rain covering Edinburgh. That 122 under frame is incredible that close up shot looks real. Always enjoy seeing Waverley. All the best Mark
Matt
As always love your modelling and photos. One small thing and I definitely could be wrong but I always thought Andrew Carnegie was one of IS 47s with a blue roof, together with 550. Apologies if I'm mistaken... mark374
Come on Dave, stop posting photos of the real thing there should be a thread somewhere for real photos, think theres only two photos of models in your post, Mark

Popular Post Waverley West
Thanks for the kind feedback, guys. Much appreciated as always. Here's a quick close-up shot of 47714 as it enters Waverley. The driver and his shirt/tie combination are based on a photo of a friend, Graeme Moyes who used to drive the shove-duffs, taken at Queen St in the 80s. Bachmann's rather chunky plastic representation of the TDM plates and wire has been replaced with A1 plates and wire separated out from layout wire, which makes a big difference to the front of the loco I think. Not too much other work needed on Bachmann 47s apart from weathering and sound-fitting as far as I'm concerned though. Cheers Dave

Or, more likely, is it the devil looks after his own? A year in Moor Row would be enough for anyone I should think, no matter what the weather!
