RMweb Gold Market65 Posted November 1, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 1, 2014 Hi. I am also lost for words with this stunningly superb model-making. The hotel is quite remarkable in every way! All the best, Market65.
RMweb Gold Steve Hewitt Posted November 6, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 6, 2014 Another aid for the Lime Street maintenance gang....... Under normal circumstances all the points on Lime Street, of which there are some 50+, are controlled by the Routing Computer. There is also a feature which allows all the points on the layout to be "cycled" simultaneously. When it is necessary to move a point during maintenance, it has meant someone needed to repeatedly set and cancel an appropriate route, or put up with the sound of 50 Fulurex motors. Geoff has now made a "Point Controller" for John, which allows any single point to be addressed by its number, and then moved on command between "Normal" and "Reversed", or cycled every three seconds. This little unit plugs into the Router and means any point can be individually tested by John anywhere on the layout without someone having to be at the Control Panel. RMweb Gold Steve Hewitt Posted November 6, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 6, 2014 Last training session before Cologne....... Yesterday Noel Coates, John Rocca and I were at John's for the last training session before we take Lime Street to Cologne for their 4-day exhibition on November 20th to 23rd. I managed to get a few video shots during the day, which I've put together here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5oyEnGtRes Steve.
RAY NORWOOD
In the video, the shot at the working of the sector plate a hand come over with a spray bottle, he sprayed some liquid on what looks like pads on the track, presume it is a wheel cleaner if so what is the liquid used. Ray, The hand was mine. The "pads" are a 25mm wide strip of thin toilet tissue. (Untextured, and only one ply peeled off two ply sheets) The liquid is Iso-Propyl Alcohol (IPA). In combination they are our "Dynamic Wheel Cleaner". During normal circumstances its the only cleaning we need. Every train arriving at the Sector Plate runs over the tissue. Occsionally the Station Pilots need special attention, as they never reach the sector plate during our operating sequence. We try never to clean the track, except in areas where maintenance or scenic work has been recently undertaken. Once the whole layout is erected, you can't get at most of the track anyway. When we pack up for an Exhibition, John "Deep Cleans" all the wheels by hand, repeatedly pushing each item over a sheet of Kitchen Roll laid across the sector plate. This of course is soaked in IPA. Popular Post Les Green
Here it is, the almost complete Southern end of the North Western Hotel. This is as far as it will progress until the rest of the hotel is completed. Some of the detail cannot be added until the full model is painted. It is now in a temporary box and will be on its way to the Cologne show next week for, possibly, its only outing until it is completed and properly boxed. Details added since my last post include the front steps, the roof crestings, a bit more decorative stone strings, a couple of drain pipes, and a few more window frames!
Michael Delamar
Are you planning to blend the brickwork on the corners in?
Les Green
Are you planning to blend the brickwork on the corners in? Not sure what you mean. The corners are all mitred. Burn marks may make the corners look as though there is a gap, but once painted the corners should look better.

Les Green
A selection of photos of the layout taken at Cologne on our trip last week. The arches under the end screen of the station roof were so new that the paint wasn't dry when we unpacked it!
Les Green
A few other railway items seen on the Cologne trip. This Gauge 1 loco was on private layout in on old carriage museum just outside Cologne. Sound, smoke, and cylinder steam, all in phase with the chuffs. Cost £3k!! Two items in Z gauge!! Big stuff! This 7.5" gauge loco was pulling 100 people! One of the showcase models Another big one!
RMweb Gold Steve Hewitt Posted November 27, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 27, 2014 Here's the layout in the "Away Strip" The white structure at the Sector Plate end is our "Cabin" A 3m square lockable rest room where we had our kettle etc. Our concerns about lack of barriers proved unfounded.
