rob D2
Lovely diorama. Great shots. If you are doing the day shed, I think this is what the P4 "western road " layout copied as well. Might be worth searching out the Rex article...
Charlie
Plus there's the Super clayton and the Gas turbines Superb line up all the same!
vac_basher
Plus there's the Super clayton and the Gas turbines Gas turbines? Didn't I say "diesel pioneer prototypes" I must admit, that Super Clayton DHP1 was one unusal piece of kit. Looks even more silly than the Fell machine IMHO. Something I'd seriously like to see would be the LNER Armstrong Whitworth D9 And from the other end of the time frame I wouldn't mind the APT-E or prototype HST either. vac_basher
If you are doing the day shed, I think this is what the P4 "western road " layout copied as well I've seen Western Road. I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly it was done as a mix between Bath Road and Laira. Very nice layout.
vac_basher
Haven't posted any photos for a while, so here's some of a couple of new machines I've reccently bought. Both these loco's still need detailing properly, as the correct bufferbeam apparatus is needed on the 31. Whereas on the 56 I will need to add the vent to the secondmans cab side. I can't understand why they have done the 31 with roof radio pods but no headlight, as I can't find any evidence of it ever running like that. But for my period I would rather of had it without pods and without the headlight. 31247 sits in the sun as does 56095 early morning start 31 at dusk And finally, as my YouTube account doesn't seem to be working I've uploaded a few videos of the Sound locos (with smoke!) Class 31 cranking up: View My Video (with rather enthusiastic acceleration!) G-DIMB
Someones been to Portishead then I picked up a few sound chipped 31s from them, i was tempted by the 56 but i havent heard one in the flesh yet. I notice Rails also have them back in stock too. Paul
vac_basher
Paul, if you like the sound of the 31's you'll deffinatly enjoy the 56's. They seem to be louder and, even though they seem to be revving faster than the 31's, have more bass as well!
vac_basher
Took a few more photos today.... And a couple more vids as I realized I could hear the hum of the fridge in some of the ones I did yesterday. lol. vac_basher
I've been taking advantage of the good weather during the past three days, sitting out in the sun doing a bit of weathering: I'm quite happy with the results. It's just as I wanted it, and the outcome is better than expected too. So quite pleased. I couldn't find much to weather on the 56 as I guess they must be aluminium and don't rust much. There's a gap between the body and the chassis is because I'd olnly provisionally reatatched the body. Think I might tone down the bogies a bit more on both of them though.

MattWallace
This is an awesome little layout, part of me is wishing I'd started this small before I realised how much work a larger layout is! I love the smoke from the 31, how is it done? I'll keep following here, looks cool

Grimleygrid
Hi Vac_basher, loving the first photo it gives you a really good view of the whole depot. Superb! Oh, and a great selection of traction too! Cracking layout, great work.
MattWallace
This is an awesome little layout, part of me is wishing I'd started this small before I realised how much work a larger layout is! So that's exactly what I've done - I've knocked up a small head-shunt for the top of my layout and I'm going to start on that and get it right before moving on to the main base boards. It's a whole 17" x 8" and has two roads on it. Thanks for the inspiration on size.
marc smith
What a cracking diorama! Nice shots too The comments about locos hiding round the back remind me of going to Bristol TM, looking towards Bath Rd depot, looking for the Metro-Vickers, which was usually lurking around the back somewhere Cheers EDIT: Would've been around this time..... vac_basher
Lovely photos gentlemen. Thanks Actually, talking of photos.... I started a specific topic a few days ago, but I guess there's no harm in putting it here too.... Does anybody have any photos of the interior of Bath Road depot?? I've searched every place I can think of online but have only come up with about half a dozen snaps. Roads 5 & 6 are of particular interest to me at the moment. vac_basher
With regards to the look of the power car, would a spot of black behind the lights make it better and take away the 'plasticy' look of them? Here's a phto of the HST's lights painted black, like you suggested. Thanks for that tip. Makes quite a diffrence doesn't it! Now, onto something totally different. My Scratchbuild Challenge entry.... It is a Translok Minilok 130. My models based on the one at Crewe works, number 7207. The real thing was never seen on Bath Road. More about the construction of this loco is here: http://www.rmweb.co....ystery-machine/ I'll be showing a couple of other new locos I've acquired during the next few days. I've bought some funny things! Edited September 21, 2012 by vac_basher
vac_basher
Between planning and constructing this I've been very busy during the past few weeks. As can be seen it is the inside of roads 5 and 6. It's not 100% finished yet, but I'm already quite pleased with it. The build went according to plan. I will be weathering it and adding more detail. For the moment the floor is only provisionally fitted as I havn't fixed the pits in position yet because I will need to take them out to add the lights to them. Here's a few photos anyway.... I ran out of clear plastic and brick plastic (for the back wall), so I'll need to get some on my next trip to the model shop. Not locos you'd expect to find at Bath Road. Actually these just happened to be on the kitchen table my work bench.... Now we're talking! I used to have a bit of an obsession with the Class 73 some 20 years ago or so. If there's one steam train which can be justified on any layout it has to be the Scotsman! Again, the old Lima Class 73 which I'm doing up. I quite fancied a Dapol one but first wanted to have a go at detailing the Lima one. I've still got to do the bogie detail and I'm going to lower it, but I'm pleased with how it's coming along.
vac_basher
I've been having a bit of a play this afternoon. Trying to find good compositions.... I like the depth it gives to it. The only thing is all of a sudan my little layout's begining to feel quite big! Would you believe, just when I thought I had my camera on the right settings and I'd just found the perfect shot the batterys in it went flat

vac_basher
Thanks David A few more photos from today..... St Vince awaits it's next turn of duty.... If yous keep an eye on Smugglers Lane the Scotsman should be working a railtour down there sometime during the next few days..... I really like the prescence the old A3's have. When I was a lad I had quite a fixation with the Greasey locos, especially the A4's. I don't think this loco will be making many appearances on Bath Road! It's really surprising how good the old Lima 73 was. You wouldn't really think you could have a 20+ year old model on display with contemporary models.... Classis machines! Being prepared for his next railtour.....
