Interesting coincidence as a former WR maintenance engineer restored an E Type and that reg is almost his initials! (but that isn't the reg of his car according to a 'net search I've just made).

Coincidence indeed! Is his black too by any chance?

This is actually the old Lima version which I had a go at doing up a bit. I'm quite pleased with the results (saved me about £80ish too)

Nice pics. I'm probably going to get slaughtered for this, but I like the Lima HST more than the new Hornby one. All mine are fixed up with ModelTorque motors so they're smooth, will do a scale 125 and can pull a full train.

Marcyg, I agree with you. The Lima HST lacks nothing as far as looks go. As can be seen, I've detailed mine a bit, added a decent cab interior in it (even though not strictly acquarate, as it came from a Hornby Class 50) and, to my eyes at least, it looks just as good as the Hornby one, perhaps even better. Best of all at just a fraction of the cost! B)

Now, I'm thinking of adding a low relief building to my Bath Road diorama. This will be a portion of the shed on the left (Not too sure, but the "day shed" I think they used to call it :scratchhead: )

I drew a plan of it but it seemed slightly small (see first photo), so I then increased the dimensions by 25% (as can be seen in the second photo). Although now I'm not too sure if it's slightly too big.... What do ye think? Are the proportions ok? (Note: If I do go with the dimensions of the second photo it too will extened as back as the first one, that is to say to include 3 window sections and 4 wall sections, even though it will measure up to be 6cm longer than the original plan, which was just 24cm in legnth)

I probably won't be able to get my hands on any plasticard for a few days, so it might be a while before this actually comes into being.

I was up early this morning messing with some plasticard, and I came up with this. It was only intended as a mock-up to see if the proportions would look ok, so it may not be the deffinite version.

Anyhow, I'm out of plasticard now untill next week at the earliest, so this is it for a few days....

I still haven't been able to get my hands on any plasticard, so in the meantime I've made a few subtle improovements to the diormama, which can be seen here (if you know where to look)

I also thought it fun to hold an "open day" event, which gave me the opportunity to get out some of my more obscure motive power.

To the best of my knowledge the real Bath Road only had two open days, one in the 1960s and one in the early 1990s.

Now, let's see what was on display....

Absolutely

More people should view each model on it's own merits and also what it will be used for rather than just going for the newest thing each time. Like you say the Hornby hst doesn't look any better (it has MTU details on the bogies) and you don't need all wheel drive for this layout.

Keep up the good work

Jim

To be honest Jim, I don't need all wheel drive on my full sets. A ModelTorque powered car will get a set up to full speed no probs, I just use two powered cars on my sets more to preserve the motors than anything, and repowering 8 PCs still cost less than buying 1 Hornby set!

With regards to the look of the power car, would a spot of black behind the lights make it better and take away the 'plasticy' look of them?

Some cracking photos there VB, you have certainly captured the look and feel of Bath Road. Loving the video of Victorious, that was my favourite Hoover. Still wondering if I could some how get away with having it on Boxenby, not sure what possible reason could explain why it would be visiting!

Keep up the good work.

What wonderful photos, of a diorama that almost looks to be the real thing in places. I spent many hours on Temple Meads, but never ventured across into the depot so didn't get the angles that you can, but I thought I would add a photo just for old times sake.

Thanks for the comments :)

Feel free to post away with the photos. The more the merrier!

Totally agree with you all about the HST.

Marc, I really like the lights on yours. That's a big improvment. I'll have to have a go at doing them on mine. Perhaps a bit of silver/white and red behind the actual lenses might make them even better maybe.

Nice photo Jonny. I wonder what the Vac with 'ploughs on road 5 was.

Grimley quite right about Victorious. That was one of the better ones that got away. A very sad loss indeed.

Great pic of Bath Road. I'm guessing the Vac in the shed may have been 15 as it looks like the DCWA period of 88/89, though could have been 12 or possibly 21 though not sure if 21 had the centre plough.

Scanned in loads of my old pics recently, hope you don't mind one from 1989 (undated, at the time you never think you'll forget the date/train!) .

Agree she was one of the better ones that they lost.

Cheers,

Stu.

Jack.

I hate that look, actually, I hate all the new light styles on HSTs. They ruined one of the best designs seen on BR.

  • 2 weeks later...

Going back a page or two there's a photo somewhere of a blue Class 33 next to a red power unit. I've reccently spent a couple of evenings doing up the power unit. Even though it's obviously not an exact copy of a 16CSVT, I've tried to make it generally look a bit similar and I'm quite pleased with the results :)
