For the record.....

A bit late in the year to be asking for 2010's new models, however............what we need is :

( Well, for this layout at least )

  • Top Spec Class 73 EDL
  • Complete range of current VSOE Pullmans, incl, the Brighton Belle cars
  • 5-BEL Pullman set
  • 5-WES Class 442 EMU
  • Top Spec Class 67 Loco.
  • Class 460 Gatwick Express EMU

That should do for now...........lets see just what comes to reality in a few days time..........

Have a Great Christmas all.............

Dave

and my layout too!!! I really want an ED - probably a JB in NSE...

(and a JA in Merseyrail - a perfect Hattons limited edition to go with their recent Sprinter commission from Bachmann).

Why not EM? Wheelsets can generally be eased out to 16.5mm back to back. Saves a lot of effort and time and money but looks good.

Mike

Mike,

Hadn't thought of that....yet.

I'm sitting on my hands here at the moment, wanting to get building but just waiting for the sheds to arrive.

As soon as these are here, I can work out my available space properly.

If these come out as good as I expect them too..........I reckon I should be able to take almost any photo from around these two buildings and then recreate it in 4mm.............we'll see !

Mmmmm,

Having moaned about the Hornby 2010 range generally, I feel that I am being unreasonable.

I'll be buying an '8-VEP', and feel that if sales of these go well, it could theoretically pave the way for a new 73' next year instead, as the bogies will then already exist ( needing a few tooling mods of course ).

It's a shame that there isn't more of 'what I wanted', of course, but then.........I'm patient.........maybe next year then eh ?

Oh......and isn't Mr Bachmann doing a press day in March(ish) to announce new items ?

That could fill some missing gaps for the D&E brigade, but, trust me........we AIN'T getting air-con Mk2's !!!!

Happy 2010 !

Hi All, welcome back to 'The Lane'.........

Progress has been slow here but with some VERY interesting points to report.........well.......interesting to me at least...

Firstly, the current state of affairs is that I am working on the completion of my depot inspection platform, which I have to admit to seeking help with, to complete the steps. Now it just needs the wheels fitted and then painting as required...

post-7088-12638483614813_thumb.jpg

Secondly, a ViTrains Class 47 is currently being 'prepped' with the addition of all the detailing parts, basically to evaluate just how good they actually look.....this one is to become 47 784 'Condover Hall'...an old friend from my VSOE days as a guard...

post-7088-12638484639771_thumb.jpg

Both of these projects currently reside on land earmarked for the site of the new depot, occupying the original depot building that I started to build myself...the depot inspection platform is being kept well and truly out of the way for safety's sake !

post-7088-12638485883851_thumb.jpg

One of the *NEW* depot buildings is exclusively revealed here to give a taste of what is to come, this being the actual 'Electric Shed'...which will be the new home for what was once known as 'The Manor Lane Fleet'...

post-7088-12638487643716_thumb.jpg

Well, thats all for now.....

Off to bed for my 03:15 start, more soon,

Dave

Hi Guy's,

Thanks for your supportive comments........it's all taking me a while but then it's not a race I suppose.

Pete, the depot inspection platforms are great little kits. For a first project, I'm finding them a good learning experience, before I go on to put the etched inspection saloon kit together later this year.

Yellowvanman, I did enjoy my shift as it turned out.........even though it actually ran ! Really gave the 66' a hard time with over 2000t, kept it back in 'fuel efficient' notch 7 but it still pulled okay.......some will and some won't......this one did ! wink.gif

Grimleygrid, I can already see the first arrivals into the new building.....a dutch 33 followed by a grey 60'.......less will definately be more here ! No details on the shed yet mate, still with the manufacturers at the mo.

Finally, RMWebbers forgive me, for I have sinned. It has been one day since my last confession.......

These two items arrived today :

Sorry, but it's gonna be Code 75 Finescale I'm afraid.........

Thats all for now,

Dave

Im blinded by those yellow boxes!!!biggrin.gifunsure.gif now what on earth have you bought those for .

If your going for RTR track (boo!) Perhaps consider Tillig stuff where it suits - for plain track you can still maybe use some C&L- i think you can get away with a 'mix' as per Cement Quay - I believe that uses peco points with C&L - Im not to keen on peco 75 as ive seen a high failure rate with the tiebars/blades, with hardly any use, as our club is also finding out. Once bitten twice shy. I think we looked at this before though - i dont think Tillig do a suitable 3-way point for your track plan though?

still wont look as nice as p4 tongue.gif

Hiya,

Hope your eyes have recovered now.........you could always phone 'claims direct' for some compo !

I have to agree, Booooooo! indeed r.e the Peco track.

I recently built a set of P4 points and loved doing them, BUT, in my defence, the stock conversion is just a no-no for me........and as you rightly point out, the Tillig option just isnt there.

I like the idea of mixing the track, with C&L AND Peco and will look at this.

I've said it before ( and don't wish the specialist manufacturers such as C&L etc ANY harm or loss of business ) but instead of live steam, I'd have liked to see Hornby or someone, bring out a 'P4' ready to run track system, with a reasonable range of variations in rails and sleepers etc, as they do with their Loco's.

If they also produced a cohesive range of third rail and overhead line equipment to simply bolt on as required, surely this is the kind of forward thinking that we need in the hobby, NOT opening doors and working lights and half baked Eurostars with over half the train missing ?

Anyways, I digress.....

Points wise, there won't BE any motors on my layout. Just as in the real Stewarts Lane depot, the points will all be manually controlled.......although I wont be keeping the crappy switchgear as supplied....will have to think of something else.

On another topic, ViTrains Class 47's.........

I spent yesterday evening putting all the detail parts on my one.......without ANY fuss whatsoever.

So, finally, I'm sold on them.......they have finally been accepted here as an accurate and quality model to represent my subjects.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have made the order.

The control system for Battersea Stewarts Lane, London, is going to be..........

The Bachmann Dynamis PRO !

I've only ever used LENZ equipment up until now, and so I don't know if it's any good, although the general consensus on the forum seems to rate it and it has ESU parentage, so, it must be good for sound fitted Loco's, right ?

Good evening,

I'd just like to post a quick update on the development of the 'Electric Loco Shed' building here at Battersea Stewarts Lane.

The builder has very kindly sent me some VERY enticing photo's of the main part of the building, and I reckon it's coming along extremely well !

Hope you find these of interest ?

The Bachmann Dynamis Pro is working very well here and is perfect for this project, currently undergoing acceptance but an excellent bit of kit at a great price too !

Kindest regards,

Dave

Hmmmmmmm, very nice Dave, I bet you can't wait to have it at your house... It looks a very sound structure. I always read your updates with interest.

Cheers

Scott

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the comments.

You're right, it does look very sound, I hope my modelling skills will be worthy of it's arrival !

I'm glad I took all the research pictures and data when I last visited..........I havent worked into there for ages and so would have had to suffer the London traffic in my car to obtain this stuff !

There will be two shed buildings built to this high standard for my layout, and then everything else built up around them...........roll on the Bachmann lifting jacks and high spec Class 73 Loco's !!!

It looks set to be a really good project, the previous layout Manor Lane TMD was good so I should think your skills will be up to it.

I would get a couple of 73's if they were to do a new model, I saw 5 real ones at Eastleigh today which made a nice change.. Shame there were no 33's kicking around too..

Cheers

Scott

Well, I'm not often lost for words but THIS has really taken my breath away, what a superb effort all round.

Excellent progress is being made on the Electric Shed building for 'The Lane' as can be seen in these pictures, and the detail is just stunning.

( I'm thinking of dispatching one of our fleet as an 0Z60 'LD' move to York, for a special photo-call, maybe a Class 60' or three ! )

Seriously, I'm well impressed with this work in progress and can see the beginnings of a new layout coming along very very nicely.

TTFN,

Dave
