But surely if Imerys needed the trains to run, DBS as contractor would be obliged provide serviceable rolling stock and run the trains the customer wants? I find it hard to believe that a shortage of serviceable wagons should be allowed to dictate the frequency of trains, which would make rail look like a weak link in the supply chain and no doubt lead to questions being asked at Imerys.

If DBS havn't got the resources to run the train, then it doesn't run! The wagon fleet has been withdrawn for attention to some braking issue. Your point is correct and I think this is why people are worried, DBS are not running what they should be, Maen Karne the road haulage company are picking up the backlog. I expect questions are being asked at Imerys and I'm sure DBS have lost other flows for similar reasons. I am willing to stand corrected on this, but am fairly sure this is whats going on.

Having had a look at the CDA pool on the TOPs computer just now I'm sure what I'm saying is correct. 6G08 is to run this afternoon with 38 loaded from Goonbarrow. Then there are around 10 good examples at Fowey. The rest are all at BZ 'for repair'. The service cannot run as booked with so few wagons. Will post full list later if anyone is interested....

Is there scope for running 2 rakes of 24 using all 48 good wagons and fitting extra services in nights/weekends until the fleet is fixed?

Below is the status on TOPS of the CDA fleet at 13:50 08/11/13. The active pool has 38 examples allocated to 6G08, vast majority of the remaining are at BZ 'For-Rep', guessing the ones at BZ not showing 'For-Rep' have been dealt with???? Further below is the stored fleet, most of which havn't moved since the current contract came in at the beginning of the year. Havn't bothered to work out which numbers are missing, but guessing these are examples that have been cut up......

Nat - most of those that are 'stopped for repairs' are not for particularly 'heavy duty' work and, as Craig has said, we will be back to two rakes in normal operation very soon, this being the Imerys/DBS plan.

I'm sure they will be back soon, but they've been out for well over a week already so it can't be that simple and definitely not good for their business. In fact the arrival dates at BZ on TOPs of 30/10 doesn't seem right as sure they were laid up well before this, has this not been going on over two weeks now?? There is a wagon in the shed right now 'up in the air' off it's wheelsets so guessing they are doing every wagon one at a time? Time consuming, especially without a depot 08 to move this around :)

A work related visit to Treviscoe resulted in a lot of pictures being taken. As luck would have it, 66155 was busy loading NACCOs in the lower loading area. The light was poor, and behind the train but here they are anyway.

Presumably this is the area being considered for the block and aggregates facility?

Just out of interest, have the PBA Tiger wagons been withdrawn now?

They left Cornwall around 5 years ago I think. I don't know if it was for scrap, storage or refurbishment. All the 'mainline' traffic since then has been the NACCO's shown in the pictures above.

A few years ago I saw some stored at Gloucester Yard, looking at the state of them I'd say they'd need at least minor refurb before before being used again.

Cheers,

Jack

IIRC, those particular wagons in Gloucester New Yard were stored there by the erstwhile Advenza freight co, who went bust. It took us a long time to get someone to take responsiblity for moving those wagons out of our yard...!

I may be wrong but it might have been Advenza (or Cotswold Rail) that moved them from storage at Burngullow. I think it was around 2008 when the economic downturn hit the clay industry and all mainline traffic was concentrated into the newer NACCO's.

Er, yes, that's exactly what happened. Once Advenza went bust, it took some time to get them moved....
