floss_4
Well, it's good to see there's still something moving beyond the gaping chasm at Dawlish.... The Stoke traffic is a concern though. Unless stocks are high or alternative sources are available a long distance road operation will be needed. Hopefully the tonnage/distance is against this being long term viable. Also has implications for other current/potential freight flows.
RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted February 6, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 6, 2014 Agreed- the Burngullow sand and possible other new traffics must be under threat. No supermarket would want to consider intermodal if future interruption is likely
winterbournecm
A couple of photos of the Fowey clay I've had my eye on for some time. The sun needs to be higher to light the valley floor though. Here's our marooned maroon DBS loco 66006 plodding its current work path on 6G06 21st Feb 2014 taken near Lostwithiel
winterbournecm
A return to the Lagoon (a film title surely?)! A sunny day and 6P24 ready to depart resulted in these shots.
Rods_of_Revolution
That's a rarely photographed angle so it's very interesting to see. You don't often get to see the front of the buildings at Kernick, the views are normally of Treviscoe or Kernick from the bridge. The water looks inviting for a swim, though I suspect that would be a very bad idea!!! Thanks, Jack
winterbournecm
Cheers Jack The water there is a bit yeuchy to say the least. I thought it may inspire an exhibition layout. perhaps I should have a go myself.... hmm
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted February 27, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2014 Actually, I suspect that someone would criticise you if you produced model water that colour!
RMweb Gold bcnPete Posted February 27, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2014 That is actually quite tame and neutral looking for a clay lagoon! suppose it depends on the light conditionsActually, I think Craig shot that in Iceland...and photoshopped in the clay works above... BTW, is it just me or is the good captain's signature text below expanding?...soon he will be posting and it will take a whole page of a thread up

winterbournecm
Up in the Cornish Alps today with some nice sunshine and 66006 due back from Fowey with 6G06. The train is seen at Treverrin.
winterbournecm
I think you should go up there more often Craig....my fave bit of my fave railway! I would be more tempted if that bloomin mast wasnt there.
Rods_of_Revolution
I think the mast adds to the view It really compliments the power lines and wind turbines! I find railways fit into the landscape in a way that other man made structures don't, especially if structures and ballast are produced from local materials. If I had my way GSM-R towers would be constructed with weathering steel, they'd sit much better in the landscape that way. It's still a lovely view though! Cheers, Jack
winterbournecm
I see what you mean. Photographers of old would have moaned about intrusive telegraph poles ruining their high shots. I try to combine the Duchy's beauty with the railways these days - rather than the traditional 3/4 train view. Anything man made can look chunky. Probably why my Carne Point arrivals shot is one of my favourite shots anywhere at the moment.
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted March 16, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2014 I'd rather one mast in a not-too-intrusive position which arguably adds to the view than 20 b****y windmills on a hillside which now litter Cornwall - with good reason admittedly - and intrude into too many scenic panoramas. Nice work Craig, as usual.
marky7890
Is 66006 the only Class 66 West of Dawlish at the moment? I wonder if it will stay as long as 66156 did in 2012.
winterbournecm
Tiz one of the prettiest spots in Gods Country. I was Loswithiel end this morning for this sequence. First shot of 6G06 on the main line descending from Milltown viaduct. The train then runs around at Lostwithiel and then joins the branch, here's the train running along the meandering river just out of Lostwithiel. RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted April 11, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 11, 2014 There was a northbound run captured on the Dawlish webcam by BR(S) yesterday - not a good view, but look like the NACCO wagons too? In which case, there must be anther running...
