RMweb Gold Popular Post Darius43 Posted October 9, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 9, 2021 Bedford RS RAE Farnbourough mobile fire control units. 1:48 scale ASAM Models. Back in the very early ‘90s I worked on the civil and structural design of the (then) new Airfield Fire Station at (then) RAE Farnborough. It formed the basis of my design project for membership of the ICE. Cheers Darius 15
33C
A couple of boot-sale finds. The four Airfix 54mm British Guardsmen 1815, in bits, in a bag for a pound, came up well. Just had to scratch a shako and a couple of little items. The Bat-boat and trailer was a mess but is coming together. 10p! And, a now fully working, Rovex princess train-set in very good condition. £10. Just had to put the coaches in the microwave on medium for 30 seconds to straighten them out, (sort of), but they do run smoothly now! lapford34102
Sword's Avenger TBM-3S2 of the JMSDF. A bit ironic considering the Avenger's part in Japan's defeat but an interesting subject. A dedicated anti-sub version they were some of the first planes supplied when Japan started to rebuild her forces. A short run kit with all the usual foibles but quite straightforward, just needs a deal of fettling to ensure everythings fits where it should. Stu Were these the ones that hunted in pairs, as there wasn't enough room for the detection equipment and weaponry in one aircraft? The FAA apparently had them until they got the Gannet 1
lapford34102
Yes, operated with these set up for the A/S role though they did carry a radar pod under the portwing. http://www.hyperscale.com/2021/reviews/kits/sw72135sereviewgc_1.htm Stu

Popular Post Ray Von
For the last few months I've been dabbling in creating "Art" from debris found on my local beach / my own recycling, using a lot of skills I've learned via this forum, I might add - somehow I've ended up with the basis for a children's book, with quite a few publishers interested. Today I made a Facebook page to show my work on, please like or even better follow! https://www.facebook.com/Spacekinsart/ 15 2

Thanks for looking Stu Hello Stu, they came from the Freightdog sheet below purchased more than 10 years ago. Still fairly useable though. The failed white stripes came from a more recent Xtradecal sheet for Hornets and Sea Hornets, but broke up as soon as they got damp. There is a Superscale sheet featuring this too, and a post war RAF FB.VI. Mike P.S. Nice Gannet, we could do with a decent 1 in 1/48 along with a Sea Venom, Scimitar, Whirlwind and re-tooled Buccanneer. 4
RMweb Premium Andy Kirkham Posted November 13, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 13, 2021 I see Bachmann have released a range of Thunderbirds plastic kits under the Adventures in Plastic label. https://www.Bachmann.co.uk/category/construction-kits/aip Inevitably, they have been designed to be roughly a contant size rather than a constant scale; TB1 is 1:144 and TB2 is 1:350, but as I recall this was always the case with Thunderbirds toys. I sometimes wonder if this was the inspiration for Thunderbird 3 6

Noting the "Royal Navy" on the tail I was intrigued. I never knew Mosquitos served in the Navy or flew off carriers. I wonder why it was still carrying terrestrial camouflage.

The story of Eric Brown's first landing of a Mossie on a carrier deck is best described as "thought-provoking".

I never knew Mosquitos served in the Navy or flew off carriers. I wonder why it was still carrying terrestrial camouflage. Eric Brown's 1944 landing was a proof of concept, leading to the development of the Sea Mosquito TR.33 a fully navalised strike fighter bomber. These were supposed to be deployed in the Far East using Highball bouncing bombs against Japanese capital ships. With the dropping of the Atomic bombs production was not important and delayed. Modified Mk.VI were used for type training until the Sea Mosquitos were available in 1946/7. They only lasted a year or 2 in service and probably never deck landed, de-navalised most were sold to the fledgling Israeli Air Force in the early 50's. A further development was the TR.37 with American radar and the horrendously ugly TT.39 target tug. T.3 dual control trainers were used for about 10 years until the mid 50's for high performance twin engine experience. The fully developed Sea Hornet was the Sea Mosquitos better, younger and faster sister, and an excellent aircraft by all accounts. It was Eric Brown's favourite piston engined aircraft. Sadly superseded by perceived better early jets. Edited November 14, 2021 by durham light infantry Punctuation! 1
cypherman
I am currently restoring a 1973 Corgi Tiger tank I was given. It has been stripped and cleaned and a base coat of Dunklegrau put on. RMweb Premium 92912 Posted November 30, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 30, 2021 These are made by my other half, they are glass jars covered in clay which is then baked to harden it. There is a plan to use them or similar on a 'fantasy world' 009 layout but the clay could be used to make scale building's etc

60091
On November 13th Andy Kirkham mentioned the Adventures In Plastic/Bachmann Thunderbirds kits - Here they are... Fireflash and TB3, both 1/350, as originally produced by Aoshima, and on the "to do" list TB1, 2 and the famous pink Rolls Royce from AIP. TB2 comes with a very small TB4 which is also available as a 1/48 scale model. TB5 is only available as a "diorama" with TB3. Expensive at £75 and listed as "no scale" ! ...and there's The Mole which is 1/72. Edited December 7, 2021 by 60091 8
