johndon
Thunderbird 2 is now in primer. As always, it has highlighted some seams that need a bit more work but, overall, I'm pleased so far, especially with the join between the fuselage and the nose which needed quite a bit of work. I decided to sand down the raised panel lines and I'll represent the panels at the painting stage. A bit more filling and sanding tomorrow but she might be green by the end of the week... F22 F35 and a Tie fighter. bit of fun tracking down bits which they had cut out and snapped in half or fitted incorrectly. richard That'd be quite an entertaining dogfight :)
johndon
After what feels like hours of filling and sanding TB4 finally has a base coat of green: I've also been decalling the 1/48 scale Talon. The thickest decals I think I've ever come across, hiding the carrier film is going to be difficult... John
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted September 16, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16, 2022 Very nice, John. I've got this one to do which I bought from a model shop in Cork a few years ago (I just pulled an image off the internet, but it looks like the same box): I was a bit disappointed with the mouldings when I looked at it, though - from what I remember, it doesn't even have the windows opened out, just blank bits. It's also very spartan with regards to detailing around the front and back bulkheads where the pod goes. So I've left it up in the attic for now, but will tackle it eventually. Incidentally I read that they had to make a second filming miniature of TB2 because the first one had been damaged too many times, but the second one wasn't quite the right shape, according to Derek Meddings. I'm not sure where it differs, but probably worth comparing early and late Thunderbirds episodes.

Looking at photos, there appears to be at least two versions of the rear bulkhead, one which looks very much like what comes in the kit I have and another where there is a distinct visible framework. I think I've figured out how to mount TB2 to do a TB4 launch diorama and I've also got another TB2 kit that comes with it's launch bay. I picked up this DVD today, a visit to the original filming studio just before it was demolished: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354260716585
Ben B
I've been doing a bit of messing around with the Iron Giant figure I built last year for a project (illustration, collaborative with my eldest who's doing the drawings). The figure has had a few modifications (for instance removing two additional projections on his head, which when silhoutted made it look like he was wearing a straw boater hat). For the shoot, we ended up trying him with some Britains 1/32nd figures as placeholders ready for Elder-Child's drawings, whilst we mess with composition and scale. All shot on a wall, at my sisters house on Anglesey :) I also upgraded the LED lights for his eyes, to make them a touch more dramatic... johndon
Almost finished the Talon, as mentioned the decals were extremely thick but as a bit of a 'hail mary', I gave it a couple of fairly thick coats of Humbrol matt varnish from a spray can which, to my surprise, worked. Just the centre part of the canopy to do now and it's done until I can get my hands on a replacement windshield. 9
RMweb Gold PhilH Posted September 19, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 19, 2022 I came across an interesting photo on the internet from WW1 depicting a temporary bridge the foundation of which incorporated a destroyed tank. I decided to attempt a diorama of a version of this using my latest rabbit hole 3d printing. Very enjoyable finding and adapting files and creating simple shapes in Tinkercad. Apart from the topography and vegetation everything else is printed by myself using both filament and resin printers 14 3
Popular Post Stuart Birks
inspired by a model on the Laser Creaton World YouTube channel I took a US Army lorry which is supposed to look like this - and modified it into a camper truck. The flatbed was removed and a small camper section built instead. It is a simple plasticard box covered with thin wood strips. The motorbike on the back is a Tamiya model and the air compressor came from Diorama World The roof rack was simply soldered from some copper wire and some foam blocks covered with some tissue. The rack on the cab roof has some simple plastic crates. Having made the truck I have created a small diorama for it to sit in. A good fun project. scots region
Bit of an odd question, but I'm working on a Takom MK10 Chieftain, Berlin camo, but I want some figures to go with it. So does anyone have a set of British Army figures circa 1980s they wouldn't mind parting with?
johndon
Well, the Talon is finished, or as finished as it can be with the missing windshield... I decided to give the panel lines, on the grey parts at least, a panel wash with oils which, as I suspected highlighted some places where the lines aren't as deep as they should be but it was good practice. It's a VERY long from perfect but, as a first go at 1/48 scale, I'm happy enough with it and I've enjoyed the process of building it, it has been a radical change from 1/200 warships and 1/76 railways. Next up will be this beauty which will be my first ever go at a Spitfire... 9
johndon
Plenty of modelling going on but still none of it railway related... After much filling, sanding, re-scribing and swearing, the pod for Thunderbird 2 finally has some paint on. I pre-shaded the panel lines with black before going over with a couple of shades of the green. and this has also found it's way on the workbench, a 1/48 scale V1 Flying Bomb. Consisting of less than 20 parts, it's the only kit I've ever built that has the build instructions printed on the back of the box such is it's simplicity... RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted November 6, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 6, 2022 I “repacked” the cabinet in the dining room having had the doors replaced and these were left over - there’s always some bits left over that you can’t get back in… Cheers Darius 13
rocor
This is one for the weird and wacky file. I have been saving my disposable razors rather than putting them in the recycling bin because I thought that I could somehow make use of them. This pedestrian footbridge model is the result of the craziness. The black connection pieces were 3d printed. 5 7

I really love the ingenious nature of this- I've used razor bodies for scifi modelling, but I've never have thought of doing something like a full girder bridge :)

Today I found an unopened Jet Provost kit in a charity shop for £3. I already have about a dozen not started model aircraft kits in the round tuit pile. Please help. Today I was bringing all the Chrimbo decorations out of the loft and took the opportunity to chuck out some appliance boxes kept "just in case". Behind them I found an Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Vb which I remember getting from a charity shop but thought I must have sold on during one of my occasional clear-outs. So I'm happy to find it but it does mean my list has just got longer...... 1
