Do I not recall that Trix produced UK models to a really unhelpful hybrid scale of 3.8mm: 1 foot? If so, the claims here are a bit misleading.

They did indeed use 3.8 mm to the foot. It equates to 1/80 scale.

The Trix 81 was in fact done to 4mm unlike the Western and Transpennine (for example).

As noted elsewhere, the AL1 was actually made to 4mm scale. This guy originally listed these as Triang, I messaged him to advise that they were Trix/Liliput bodies.

They did but the Class 81 is actually 4mm to the foot, it has a complicated history but was sold as Lilliput before being absorbed into the Trix range. Eventually produced again as Lilliput, these body shells date from that era. I have one of these shells, fitted to a Hornby 86 chassis, that I bought in the 90s when there were a lot of them being sold off.

For those that don't like long descriptions. Brand new unopened Lima cl 37 in an open box. Bit pricey for me.

You can buy it now even though there isn't a buy it now button. Is this allowed? Not that I'm the eBay police...

He's relisted it, along with the rest of his overpriced tat that didn't sell. No prizes for guessing how much he's reduced his prices by. Didn't Einsten have something to say about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?

Some of these spare bodyshells actually ended up being sold by Dapol - I remember the adverts in RM!

Liliput/Trix weren't the only manufacturer to use a hybrid scale. I think Kato are still using 1/80 on 16.5mm gauge for their Japanese stock. Likewise, Fleischmann employed 1:82 and 1:85 on a number of models throughout the 1960s right through to the mid-1980s. I think someone went to the trouble of compiling a list of the compromised models, in order to help others to avoid them!

Isn't anything where the track and body are to a different scale a hybrid? e.g. 00!

They fit the Bachmann Class 85 chassis even better, less work to do all round.

I'm sure they do and it would run much better too but the Bachmann 85 wasn't even thought of when I built it. In fact I don't think they had even progressed beyond the ex-Mainline stuff then.

"The bodywork isn't bad, it certainly looks the part but the paint is too thick and maybe stripped down and repainted it would look far better." No sh*t, Sherlock!

Now reduced to £375.....  take a look at his completed listings.  I can't see a time when it wasn't £375.....  though that may have been 90+ days ago.

Their last models were 4mm scale* (I understand (the A4 survived until recently as a Bachmann - still survives?), but I'm not sure if the class 81 was one of them - IIRC the Dublo version was somewhat dimensionally compromised, so "more accurate" would not take much.

* The ones I have are 3.8mm to the foot (approximately!), like the Rivarossi 'Scot'. For Trix Twin, of course, scale is not really relevant.

Edit for finger trouble - I can spell 'course'.  :jester:

The Lilliput 81 was very good for an early 60s model and certainly is fairly dimensionally accurate.

Jim SW has a couple on P4 New Street:

I knew I should have kept mine...what was it ?    £1.2s.6d or 15/-  ........ nah, must have been a lot less than that !

Around 15/  IIRC. This is actually a quite reasonable price in the collector's market.

EDIT 13/- Here advertised along with another overpriced Dublo rarity.
