RhBBob
"Klear"ly taking the mickey - http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item3cb4261ee6 Andy B) Surely, we went through this 'discontinued' Klear fallacy on a previous thread ? S C Johnson's drivelled on about it back in January 2008. I went out then to my local 'pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap' place and bought three bottles !! Has it finally come to pass ? RMweb Premium DIW Posted January 14, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 14, 2011 A curiously high price paid for a locomotive body: particularly considering the closing price for a complete locomotive the following day!
RMweb Gold 57xx Posted January 15, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 15, 2011 More than double most of the BIN prices I've seen - Collett Goods. Dan Griffin
i thought this was a joke at first!!!!!! who'd pay £2.75 for £2?? madness http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2004-milled-incuse-railway-line-motif-/270689045250?pt=UK_Coins_BritishDecimal_RL&hash=item3f06530b02

RMweb Gold 96701 Posted January 16, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2011 I wish I could afford this Tri-ang Hornby Hymek. I don't want it at that price, I just wish I had that much spare cash.
Butler Henderson
TMC and ebay is only used by them as additional outlet so perhaps all the TMC stuff should go into a subject on its own separate from this one.
Etched Pixels
Seems the bankers must have gotten all their bonuses this week and are all into N gauge We have £75 quid (and still going) for Dapol teak coaches, over 50 quid for a second hand class 25 (should have tried a model shop!) Lord Summerisle
Can anyone tell me why the Bachmann class 159 in the newest South West Trains livery is so highly prized? This one sold by Rails of Sheffield sold for £200; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bachmann-31-514-CLASS-159-SOUTHWEST-TRAINS-3-CAR-DMU-/130472513247?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item1e60c48edf#ht_4378wt_1078 and I've seen similar prices realised several times before, though a bit of research seems to turn up an example that sold for £45; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bachmann-31-514-Class-159-3-car-DMU-SWT-livery-/280614079837?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4155e70d5d#ht_500wt_898

Rails also have the following by name, so tend to attract the 'watchers', whereas the other guy would have taken someone looking for that item specifically.. Rails also finished their auction on a Sunday evening when there are lots of 'potential watchers' around, the other guy finished very late on a Monday evening -always a bad move that. Its the same when the weekend shopping is done at Tesco's and their 'its a bargain' advertising , when the corner shop could be cheaper or just as cheap. I've found in the past Rails items have always fetched premium prices.

Jenny Emily
The word 'rare' should be banned from Ebay listings. Very few things actually are rare. It must be the most abused word in Ebay listings. Gosh, I'm cynical.

Bernard Lamb
The word 'rare' should be banned from Ebay listings. Very few things actually are rare. It must be the most abused word in Ebay listings. Gosh, I'm cynical. Unless in the context of steak. But not as bad as 'unopened' or 'new' when applied to some thing that by definition has been sold by a retail outlet. There are dealers with boxes of these things who do not even bother to take them to shows as they know they will not sell any of them. I was going to quote an inter trade price but I better not in the interest of protecting the market. Gosh, ditto. Bernard
Kenton
.....and I'm fairly sure this is some sort of cast ornament - it certainly isn't a loco 390279446463 but IMO far worse than the dodgy description is the ileagal T&C "Please note I no longer accept ANY claim for loss or damage if goods are sent without the Recorded Delivery option." The sender is ALWAYS responsible for the decision on postage method and insurance - if he doesn't like that then he should insist on Recorded Delivery. Charging appropriately of course. As to it being a loc - well I suppose it is - the word loco is applied to traction engines as well.
pointstaken
"It comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home" - I couldn't care less if it comes from an igloo in the middle of the Arctic. I'd be building the kit, not checking the antecedents of the item or the vendor. Dennis
shortliner
Well - if it is a traction engine, it looks like something out of a steampunk designers fantasy-dream one, made up from some scrap boilers

bertiedog
I did not save the reference, but new today is yet another "kit built whitemetal loco", a GWR Prairie that bears a striking resemblance to a Graham Farish die cast RTR Locomotive, I think sellers list as kit if it's metal and heavy, and sellers who regularly sell models should know what RTR was made and be able to identify it. Nobody expects high expertise in sellers but the make is on the model if he looks, and a few moments on the net would have identified the loco. Gaiety also get listed as kit, or kit built, ( Yes..... I now some were sold as body only kits) Stephen.
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted January 22, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2011 Could someone explain to me what the hell is going on here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/triang-horrnby-R156-225-emu-4-car-set-rebuilt-reworked-/170593698914?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item27b82d4462 Apart from the lack of pictures (dumb, really dumb) there seems to be some strange spiel about if you give him four stars on feedback instead of five he will get thrown off Ebay? I have read this listing a couple of times now and it just doesn't make any sense!! Doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the seller does it? EDIT - He has other items as well with similar spiel, and still no pictures!!
