Some of you may know I'm in the market for an O gauge TOAD brake van

but honestly, that's more than the list price of a new, untouched, guaranteed kit from Parkside

Good job I paid £35 delivered for one today from Castle Trains

I know they're collectable spares but....

The seller has a few other 'bargains' too. The goods shed door starts at more than I paid for the rest of the thing!

I suppose the weathering does make it rare, or even unique, given that each weathering job is slightly different, but not all of us are mad about weathering anyway. This seller specialises in such treatment of run-of-the-mill RTR, and they must sell, as he has 3 bids to £22! Even if it were a vehicle of my prototype, I would not be bidding.

Here is one I don't understand. Vi-Trains Class 37's, complete, mint, unopened in box with all the detailing parts in their little plastic bag can be readily had for as little as thirty notes, yet every time a set of detailing parts on their own appears on EBay, nutters bid up to twenty quid for them.

You could buy a Vi-Trains 37 brand new, keep the detailing parts bag and then sell the body and chassis separately and make a profit if any common sense were applied.

Is the world really that full of Muppet's these days?

Likewise Bachmann 08s... I've seen bodies go for up to £25 in good nick, and recently sold a chassis for the same price, yet there are complete boxed locos going for as little as £35! I might have to invest ;-).

Fancy a damaged Hornby Sir Nigel Gresley  Ok its a limited edition (over 2000 made) but there are loads on ebay

The chassis went for £40. I have bought ones for £25 before (its no different than any other A4 chassis )

If your really rich you can also have the box start bid £15 plus £3.00 postage for a empty box :D 0 bids so far

Total cost = £ 117.50 plus postage (if you want the box to keep it in ) :P:P:P:P for another £8 you can buy a mint unused example on ebay

I better start bashing some of mine about ;)

Totally Bonkers :)

I know that thrifty folk offer sundry items on ebay, and you or I may be grateful on the day, but this really is scraping that barrel. The title spelling may not be helping the seller's case, either.

The Amazon thing - some people offer books at stupid prices and just hope that mugs will look no further. I have seen copies of my own books (novels, not railway related) offered at 5 or 6 times the cover price. The funny thing is both are still in print and available brand new for the cover price or less! I hope no one has been caught especially as I don't benefit from the sale.:)

Generally, it is a better place to sell books than Ebay and there's a facility on there telling you the lowest price, so you can offer yours for 50p less than the next guy. Not a bad venue for selling unwanted railway books.

Ebay's estimated delivery time is made up from Royal Mail's estimated delivery time (in this case 1-2 days) plus the sellers maximum estimated dispatch time (in this case "within 15 days"), hence the 16-17 days.

2 weeks to post a tiny item out though
