And replace it with something else! The usage of the 2nd Amendment comes to mind.

"In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple." It must have been a most impressive layout!

Of course, some say that Moses was a biker...

”Dapol 0-6-0 TERRIER BOX HILL chassis only”

Proceeds to only show the box with a body inside, no indication of a chassis whatsoever.

Seller is Cash Converters Lancashire. Not noted for their knowledge of model railways ( or, apart from maybe computer games, much else for that matter)

 Cheers, Rich

Probably sold to them by a skinny chap with a nervous tic and no front teeth.

Comes in every day regular as clockwork.

I found a load of stock stolen from a model shop in a cash converters, alarm bells rang as it was all N-gauge revolution trains stuff only weeks after release, confirmed it with the shop, police were involved and the stock was returned (minus a few items already sold)

Being in Lancashire, it's often heard when someone has something stolen that it will have been down at cash converters by 9am.

When my late friend had his antiques and collectibles shop, we used to insist on taking photo ID from anyone coming in off the street selling items. It paid off a few times. Not that the perpetrators ever seemed to get locked up though.

To coin a phrase, "Crikey!". That's a first

It wasn't model railway related but automotive - the old chestnut of "If you bid you will receive a wheelnut" - with the rest of the ad saying they want to buy wrecks.

I had an iPod nicked from The glovebox of my wife’s car outside the house many years back, at the time it was an unusual 160gb version, couple of days later I went round the local trade in shops and Game had a 160gb iPod fresh in, had a look and sure enough it was mine, the manager asked how I could prove it so I scrolled to one of my albums called ‘Jim’s DJ Mixes’ which very handily I’d put a photo of myself (stood in front of a class 67) as the album cover!

I sneakily saw the name of the person who’d traded it in before going to the police station and when I mentioned I’d seen the name and told them they knew him straight away, he got arrested and it went to court but got away with it as it couldn’t be proved he’d stolen it from the car and he told the police he’d been given it by a friend and didn’t know it was stolen, despite him being a known prolific car thief in the area

About 25 years ago I had a motorcycle stolen, it hadn't been on the road in decades so there was no logbook. I knew who had stolen it and contacted the police.

It didn't even get to court. The thief swore blind I'd given it to them and had already sold it. No further action taken.

I told the police that I knew where there was a 1940s Bentley rotting in a shed and was it alright if I went and dragged it out?

No. That would be theft.

But what if I insisted that someone gave it to me?

Is CC actually a porn shop? Asking for a rather dodgy 'friend' - with no front teeth!

I see some sellers are listing models as 'refurbished'  What is refurbished, exactly?

Taken out of the box and put back in the wrong way round or incorrect box...

Tested, and barely able to haul its own weight, model is given a light dusting, and the box checked all over to see if they can say it’s a good one.

Pretty much.  It's one of those imprecise past tense verbs that are popular in marketingspeak, doesn't mean anything exactly but sounds good, as if the model has been overhauled and is in good condition, or at least cleaned and re-lubed...

A great addition to your collection, of course!

If you've seen the videos of Sam "refurbishing" an X04 commutator with a Dremel* fitted with a wire brush, you'll get a hint about how some refurbishments proceed...

* Other rotary tools are available...
