This is what I like to see - I DO love a good tunnel portal or two :)

Ooer I like a good stone viaduct should I seek help!  Great modelling Dave.

That will make you two arch rivals then won't it?????

This is fast becoming one of those fringe web sites we hear about, my own fetish recently involves a replacement hammer for one stolen by a gang of scaffolders 30 years ago, I've made do with cheapo ones but another button pushing frenzy on Amazon has delivered the most gorgeous, slim, blade like forged Estwing 20 oz Hammer complete with turned leather handle, now I've got to convince myself to remove it from the bedroom and actually hit a nail with it!

Meanwhile the tunnel has been glued together complete with coping stones and received the first base coat of paint, my problem recently is that I am dogged with fatigue linked with current treatment and even painting needs one to be awake.

Good Heavens! Now I'm drooling!

No rush Dave! Health comes before models railways every time. Besides it builds up the sense of anticipation for the rest of us mortals!

Just think though! When you do pick up that hammer you'll probably feel like Thor! (Cue the thunder!) :O

Regards

Bill

Edited for spelling!

you'll probably feel like Thor!

He was riding through the heavens on his horse one day and decided to make his presence known. He shouted at the top of his voice "I'M THOR !!!!"

The horse turned to him and said "Well, you forgot your thaddle, thilly!"

I've got a few minutes while I wait for paint to dry on my new tunnel portal but I've hit on another non modelling problem members may be able to advise upon.

I've been having daily radio therapy on my liver and apart from feeling very tired and feeling a bit queasy and off my food it is all going according to plan and I don't think this is related but during this week I have lost vision in my left eye as though there is a tinted lens across it, it has got so bad I don't feel safe to drive since it screws up my peripheral vision and speed / distance perception.

I even find it  difficult to focus on painting the tunnel portal so fine detail work is for the moment out of the question.

I have an appointment with my optician on Tuesday but does any member recognise the symptoms, I suspect a cataract but it seems to have occurred rather suddenly.

Dave, A cataract is a slow process, it doesn't happen suddenly as you describe.

The symptoms you mention would seem to indicate the rupture of a blood vessel in the eye, probably on the retina.

If you look in the mirror is there any sign of your eye being bloodshot?

I would urge you to consider contacting your GP, or the hospital, as soon as possible, and not to wait for the opticians appointment.

Al.

Hi

I had this happen to me a few years ago. Mine was caused as has already been mentioned by blood vessels bursting in the eye. It was corrected using Laser surgery and was caused by my Diabetes. Touch wood I have been alright ever since (2006/2007).

Cheers

Paul

Thanks guys, a burst blood vessel may be responsible but it's now Saturday so any chance of a doctors appointment is nil even A&E would see me still waiting by Tuesday, a doctor friend implored me to act asap but Tuesday seems the best I can do but rest assured if I need to see a specialist or have surgery the sacrifices made in early life have built a 'pot' for going private without a second thought.

I did finish the portal and I'll try and post some images, I tried a new painting technique and I'm not 100 % convinced I'll throw it open to the forum.

Dave, my local Hospital has an emergency eye clinic. They saw me when I had a sudden spidery thing in the vision of my right eye. That was a burst blood vessel. I can understand you are pi$$ed off with hospitals, doctors etc, but this is your sight man. Please go today.

No post from Dave so hopefully he's taken all your advice and gone to get it seen to.

All the best to you Dave, I can only use one eye at the moment as I still have double vision from my Mild Stroke about 3 weeks ago. Eyes are so precious, look after them all you can Dave.

Look forward to seeing (no pun intended) modeling again in a day or so.

All the best,

Andy.

Thanks Mike but scribing the cobbles is NOT therapeutic in fact I suffer from 'repetitive TRAIN syndrome' but I'm afraid it is one of those necessary evils I consider has to be endured if I want to create the right effect, I do compromise on some lesser things but detailing all four sides of a building unless it is low relief or butts onto another building is a must. In fact cobbled streets are one of those details that helps identify the time and location.

I've not been too energetic of late but I hope I'm re-gaining some strength before the next dip so intend to get stuck in on some more detailing which will be photographed and posted within the next few days.

What you need is one of these:

Blow me down that's her!

I might even put on hold my aversion to household pets. Talking of which the walk outdoors I mentioned yesterday happened to pass a local pub and Julie and I tripped over a couple of Black Sheep from The Theakstone's flock up at Masham in North Yorkshire she had some bad news to break, we've got another grandchild on the way, No 2 son is getting married again and resuming with nappies and sleepless nights at 42, has the world gone mad?

Although my Nubian Princess has a day off today the ward Sister has just given me an ice cream lolly, not as I thought to shut me up and certainly not for being a 'Good Boy' but to ease the affects of my latest chemo infusion, fantastic service in here and always with a laugh.

Talking of temptress's Hattons have emailed me their sales list this morning and they are promising a West Yorkshire Bristol Lodecker bus in red en-route to Bradford  I'm no expert like Coachman but even I can see I need to grab this opportunity while I can, more expense but better than wasting it on grandchildren!

Our lot used to operate 3 or 4 of these back in good old NBC days. The last ones to remain in the fleet were convertible so they were often used on the route "24" sightseeing service of the time.

Dave,

Are you alright, we haven't heard from you since June 30th when you were having vision problems. We all worry about you as I'm sure you realize, don't want to pry but like to keep in touch with your progress.

All the very best,

Edward

Thanks Edward,

Sorry No,

Eye-sight problem not identified but probably linked with on going health issues, some occasional return of light but nothing better, modelling out of the question for the foreseeable (excuse the pun) future.

I'll never give up the dream but it is only that at present, another unplanned 8 days in hospital but I was able to do some train formation mind planning along with some mind altering steroid induced out of body experiences which thankfully didn't get down the Great Western Branch line or rivet counting depths of depravity! (Only kidding oh, Chosen Ones).

Thanks to you all,

Dave

I am the bearer of very sad tidings. Dave lost his fight with cancer on Thursday of this week, so we shall never get to see this latest project taken to completion. I've posted an obituary in the appropriate section of the forum, but I felt that I should also briefly add this very sad news here, as I know many people have not only been following progress, but also keeping their fingers crossed that somehow there might be a happy ending. Some progress had been made on the layout, and his wife Julie has asked if that could be posted on here so that all of us can see how far things had got.

I shall therefore liase with Andy Y, and when the necessary arrangements are over, and Julie feels up to it, he and I will go and take some photos and post them here, as a memorial to a sublimely talented modeller.

Gilbert, that really was a shock to read as I thought Dave was winning his battle.  It was testament to his positive outlook that he was determined not to let it beat him and he did so well to stay upbeat even in his darkest moments.

My sincere thoughts to Julie and his family.  We have lost a very talented modeller and a great guy.  I'll never forget his kindness and encouragement..

I'd also like to add my condolences. I was brought to tears when I heard the sad news. Farewell Mr. Shakespeare and may your modelling legacy live on in this great and wonderful community that is RMWeb.
