RMweb Gold Popular Post queensquare Posted April 2, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 2, 2023 I got the main formation glued down this afternoon and was very pleased to find that my rigid, six wheel, test vehicle, which doesn’t take prisoners, rolled through very smoothly. Next job will be TOUs and some track either side of the formation so I can rig up some temporary wiring and test the formation properly. RMweb Gold Donw Posted April 4, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 4, 2023 Its really coming on great Jerry. You seldom see layouts that replicate such typical railway landscape. I love the photos of trains crossing the bridge. Wiring is not that difficult I would advise noting what you have connected to what. If you dont like wiring DCC and using frog juicers makes it somewhat easier I am a bit too far away to come and help, much as it would be worth it to see the layout in the flesh. But I am happy to make suggestions if any one needs help. Don 1 2
RMweb Gold Popular Post queensquare Posted April 6, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 6, 2023 Very pleasant, and productive evening in front of the fire. What a fantastic time saver Easitrac is -though the animals didn’t seem that gripped by how it has revolutionised the production of plain track! Mr Chunks (below), son of Minsky seen sprawled across the table above, was obviously out on a date as he would normally take prime spot in front of the fire! RMweb Gold Popular Post queensquare Posted April 7, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 7, 2023 Well I made up all the track bases I had, (still got plenty of rail), and this morning roughly laid them out and I have just enough to get all the way to the buffer stops under the roof with the main running lines as well as the Midland goods arrival line. Will have to order more for the various yards but I’ve got more than enough to keep me going for now. The Midland line to Mangotsfield is out of sight so I can do that in alternate sleepers copper clad. Before I get too carried away I need to think about, and build, the main station panel. I built all the Scale four lever frames a couple of years ago but nothing else. I need to be disciplined (sic!) and get this done so I can wire the various sections - there will be a few despite being DCC- and TOUs directly into it. What I don’t want is a temporary lash up for the wiring- these have a habit of becoming permanent and a constant source of irritation. We’ll see how this discipline concept goes- it’s not something that comes naturally! It’s Good Friday and sunny so spending the rest of the day in the garden. May even light the fire pit and get the guitars out later. Jerry 39 1

I take it then that you are definitely not at York this w/end with Foxcote New Pit ? Shown in the listings in the April Modeller but in fairness not in the official York MRS layout list. No I’m at a family wedding today in Southampton so had to pull out several months ago. I was gutted as York weekend is one of my favourites of the year. We will be back in 2024 with the late Iain Rice’s Trerice and 2025 with Tucking Mill. Foxcote is now built into the home layout and is being retired from the exhibition circuit - it’s last outing will be Rail Wells this August. RMweb Gold Popular Post queensquare Posted April 17, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 17, 2023 Just back from a splendid weekend in Cornwall helping John Greenwood with Wadebridge at the Helston clubs show in Pool, Camborne. An unusual visitor on Wadebridge shed was SDJR Fox Walker 0-6-0ST No 1. She is the latest product of our ongoing bartering and is completely scratchbuilt. As expected from the hand of JG, she looks and runs beautifully and only requires a few details before entering the paint shops. She’s now at home with me. RMweb Gold Popular Post queensquare Posted May 4, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 4, 2023 Managed a few hours on Bath last evening and made further progress on the trackwork around Bath Junction. I glued down the head shunt for the goods arrival line and got the first couple of lengths of the Midland mainline down. I also got the three way and associated pointwork loosely laid with all the joining lengths cut and ready to go though these won’t be glued down until I’ve made and fitted the tie bars. The mirror tests suggests everything is lining up as it should. Jerry 39 4
RMweb Gold Popular Post queensquare Posted May 6, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 6, 2023 (edited) It’s been raining all morning so I occupied myself in the workshop making the main panel for Bath whilst listening to the king dive into his dressing up box on the radio. Some lovely ply off cuts courtesy of Will (tapdieuk) and a couple of hours work resulted in the basic carcass. The track plan is a first draft and is only bluetacked in place. Signalling experts, please don’t look too closely. The levers represent all three Bath boxes combined and has been greatly simplified. There is no attempt at interlocking, I simply want to be able to display the correct signals, particularly when taking pictures. This panel will only control points/signals necessary for arrivals and departures, there will be smaller, local panels for the two goods yards, the sheds and the station environs. ShadowinLinby
Lever frames are available from the Scalefour public store as below. If you want more of a challenge you can get the Mark two version which can be interlocked but you'll need to find a Scalefour member to buy them for you as they are only available to S4 members 3
RMweb Gold queensquare Posted May 9, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 9, 2023 Ella’s third birthday today. After an excellent weekend away on the West Somerset she is seen here having a well deserved Kip with the rest of the household! We had a little 2mm gathering on Monday, I’ll post some pictures once the brothers Grand remind me what the locos are - more very nice GC types!
