Getting close to wildlife - literally

The nearest I've been to any wildlife recently.

I was just about to move the bin when I noticed what I thought was a dead Holly leaf stuck to one of the wheels. I realised it was a moth and convinced it to get on my finger so I could take the pic. I put it on the branch of a nearby Lilac tree where it stayed for the day.

Spotted these in the garden last night, never seen either up here before, not enough trees close by.

The locals were not happy at all...

This one was also thieving... but flew off when I pointed the camera at it.

Wandering back and forth to the gates in work produced saw this in the flangeway in the crossing:

Two trains passed over safely, then she moved up so I moved her to the box stairs out of the way. I then saw this beastie:

Later they were both together at the bottom of the stairs:

Again I have no-idea what they are!

The top one is a Garden Tiger Moth, you might find the kapterpillas on your strwberries, very hairy!

The other could be one of several, I'll have to look in my books...

Bsy, bacsn (Winnie the Pooh did text speak decades ago...)

No photos am afraid - they don't keep still long enough - but out fluff chucking on the River Lugg yesterday evening had a water vole for company.

Ground squirrel at Lava Lands Visitor Center near Bend, Oregon:

These are amusing when they run - their tail sticks straight up in the air, and they go at a fair clip. We had been calling them chipmunks, but apparently chipmunks (which do look similar) have the back stripes continued up onto the head.

Not strictly wild, this is Horace our latest rescued hedgehog.

He was found last year when only a few months old and he was literally starving. He was taken in to a rescue centre and fed. He hibernated and woke up about four weeks ago. However he has servers vision problems being extremely long sited. He can see us from a few feet but can only find food by smell close up. In the wild he'd have been useless at hunting prey hence him going hungry last year.

So he's here to stay and already knows his name and is very friendly and nosey!

Oh and he seems to love watching black and white old films from channel 343 while spralled out on the sofa!

It's not a Common Blue. They have a different underside pattern, including orange.

As seen here - post-4474-0-46954400-1462099146_thumb.jpg

It might be a holly blue, but will have to get the books out.

Edited to add that given the time of year, I am pretty certain it is a male Holly Blue.
