RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted March 5, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2013 Whilst appreciating the essentially visual nature of this thread, I thought there might just be a few members who had not heard this little rhyme about relations among traincrew : The Guard is the man Who sits in the van, Down at the back of the train. Now the driver - up front Thinks the guard is a - really rather splendid sort of chap, actually, And the guard thinks the driver's the same. Bless.

Engineer_London
From my days of working with Test Crews, around 1983. Wimbledon Park, battery loco hauling loco 12 to Wimbledon Park depot, prior to an outing on the Southern. John Curd driving, Test Train Driver Frank Heavens on the offside and in the centre, Frank's guard, Peter Boyes. John's guard, Stevie Adams is probably with the technical folk on loco 12.

new puritan
A cold, wet February Sunday afternoon and this chap now has to struggle with a Seacow chute wheel to make his day even better! Meanwhile at the other end ... the casual stance and stray ballast on the chute shows that this gent got the better end with a movable wheel! Chubber
Men like these would have been the people who impressed a young me with their patience and forbearance as I asked daft questions, tried to cab them and generally got in the way. Don't the firemen look young? This picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/bristolsteam/8544717662/in/photostream/ should be in front of every modeller painting model foot-plate men to avoid the 'one shade of blue' covers all coveralls! I bet the sleeves reached the end of his arms before the shovel put muscles on his shoulders, too. Thanks for posting, Doug
