RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted December 8, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 8, 2016 I have been in touch with Paul Isles at Hornby about the inside cylinder cover on 5076 as the wrong type is shown in the illustration of R3454 on the 'net (where it's shown with the post reboilering version). Paul has assured me that 5076 will come with the correct rounded edge cylinder cover and has given me me permission to state that on RMweb. So now you know. G-BOAF
Would 5043 Earl of Mount Edgecumbe run on BR with a double chimney AND a early crest.? Keith no, Hornby captured it in its preserved state. It would have had a late crest in BR condition. And of course had/has a straight cab handrail and large cab front windows (which Hornby didn't quite manage on their model!) Floreat Industria
I have just got round to buying "Caerphilly Castle" and was annoyed by the silly angle of the fall plate, which has been mentioned in the past. I assumed it was plastic and would break if bent but I have discovered that it is made of brass. The two small tabs at the sides merely sit in their depressions but there are two tabs in the centre that are pushed into slots. On my loco they are not glued and the fall plate can be worked up and out carefully. The plate can be bent to the angle you prefer without causing any harm, although don't bend it often or the small tabs would no doubt snap off! My "Star" has the same fall plate but its tabs have been glued. Both locos had the steam lance valve (left hand side of the smokebox door)broken off and missing and rather than try to get plastic replacements I see that Alan Gibson does them (ref 4M764) so I am getting a couple. . . RMweb Premium Hilux5972 Posted April 27, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 27, 2017 My Castles had the same issue with the fall plate. The new hinged one on the Kings is a much better arrangement.

RMweb Gold Ian Hargrave Posted June 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 2, 2017 It's a maior omission in my view - but one I'm 'working on' for want of a better expression I believe Paul Isles is attending the GCR event in a couple of weeks.I must remember to lobby for this when I am there.Good point...well worth raising. The double chimney may have improved the Castle's performance but did it a disservice aesthetically. On a positive note, the green seems an improvement ( opinion subject to caution on online imaging )

RMweb Gold Ian Hargrave Posted June 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 2, 2017 This one became "Gladiator" during wartime and remained thus until withdrawal."Drysllwyn Castle" was eventually reinstated on newly constructed 7018. I was going to resist (3 kings, 3 castles and a Star fill the fiddleyard nicely) however I am now having second thoughts. Shirt button is the easiest to rebrand the tender, and it never takes long to get rid of the footplate lining...... If I can find proof that the 4000gl oil burning tender fitted to 5091 in 47 actually was black (as per the article in GWRJ no7), or find an alternative green / black combination castle I might be even more tempted..
