Fantastic picks and very entertaining texts too.

The atmosphere of the S&C is so well captured in fact  the only thing missing is the horizontal rain.

The helix looks fascinating and a layout to play with in itself..good excuse to model Big Bertha!

Fantastic set of weekly shots mike

The SM house looks absolutely spot on,scale, colours, the way it sits in the ground.

Love the pic with the prefect & anglia, very 1960s

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben,

Thanks for that, my first car was an Anglia ermmmm but it was the Prefect shape - honest, 1160cc side-valve engine, and the estate version was called an Escort! Therefore anyone who says they had a Mk1 Escort of the type we all recognize is actually fibbing, good quiz trivia!

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that, no rain as I have had my fill of it! My mate John and I tried stacking more trains on both helix's but it just got too complicated and we reverted back to normal.

..there was also a van based on the Escort called an Esquire I believe.

S/V engine and suicidal Vacuum wipers that slowed to a stop when you floored it ..wheezing past someone on the wrong side of the road in the rain and the b****y wipers slow down..who thought that up!

Morning Mike,

You probably read of my recent period on the sick list so I must apologise to everyone for leaving lots of ratings.

Glad to see the great work has continued in my absence and the standard of photography is as high as ever. Good to see the 'vital spark' still puffing and Clive's jokes running at their normal level.

Well done mate, and I like the 'hidden banking' solution as well as the workmanship on the Stationmaster's house. My favourite remains the Jubilee however - predictable eh?

Thanks for sharing the pics with us,

Kind regards,

Jock.

I remember both the Esquire and vacuum wipers, sad really as I can't remember what I did last week.

Hi Jock,

Hope you are feeling a bit better mate. I knew you would like the Jubilee and I have now solved my nagging problem so long train haulage will be occasionally diesel hauled as opposed to double headed steam!

I thought I would add to my previous post regarding my first car, a Ford Anglia - but Prefect shape. I paid £15 for it in 1970 and it was a washed out sky blue colour. I got a gallon of BR Blue for £10/- (50p) yes pre-decimal and proceeded to repaint it, I decided to do the bonnet and boot lid in Humbrol black. The first time I took it to work St.Rollox Works the gateman stopped me and said "you only need a BR sign to go with that"! I never gave that aspect much thought did I.

Hi all,

Been to the Stafford show today, very pleased with the standard of exhibits and good selection of traders. The M6 was closed northbound with a tailback of at least 3 miles so we were somewhat wary thinking of our return but by then all had cleared, the rain did not though and god help those going tomorrow as the grassed areas used for parking were a quagmire at 2.30 when we left. I have taken a few pictures and will put them on with my usual update tomorrow.

In the meantime here are a few oldies...All taken on visits to the Western Region in the 70's

  • RMweb Gold

The Class 25 would appear to be at Craven Arms.

I don't think the Class 50 and the 1000 are at Rowington andIi'm more inclined to place them on the GW mainline in the vicinity of Chippenham/Thingley Jcn although the embankment looks a bit low.  But both of those pics were definitely taken in WR territory and not in an area resignalled by the LMR (which was the case at Rowington, being north of Hatton).

Hi Mike,

Many thanks for that info, all those photos were from a 'stack' of loose negatives with no details and I'm afraid the old memory is - well 'old'! I can see its Craven Arms now but when I was deliberating all I could think of was a location beginning with an 'L' e.g. Llandridnod Wells etc.

I tended to keep photos in their envelopes but over the decades following various house moves and a witch of an ex! I am left with a big headache. I am currently scanning all my old negatives, thousands of the things, some good some obviously not so good and far too many without details but those lineside efforts without locations are posing me real problems at times so any help such you have given is very much appreciated.

Hi all,

Weekend update has a different flavour to start. I went to Stafford yesterday and took these...

post-5296-0-56989800-1454868488_thumb.jpg

This layout is called 'Old Elms' and is based on somewhere close to Reading and the name comes from combining Old Oak Common and Nine Elms MPDs as both Southern and Western Region are the main type of stock.

In the background is a 3rd rail EMU and in the foreground is a DEMU

post-5296-0-15597300-1454868528_thumb.jpg

Very good modelling is seen to advantage here

post-5296-0-48836100-1454868572_thumb.jpg

34030 has just restarted its train. I really enjoyed watching this layout.

Here my favourite class of loco is being turned on an 'O' gauge layout but I can't recall the name!

I picked up a few things at Stafford and you can clearly see one here as we follow the progress of EE Type 1 D8046 and D8129 as they haul a heavy steel working north.

From here you may just see what I have added today after scratchbuilding them, answers on a postcard please.

As the steel working heads into the gloom Clayton Type 1 D8500 exits with a fitted freight southbound, we'll follow its progress.

Hot on the heels of the fitted freight is Jubilee 45600 'Bermuda' with an express fish train,

So much for 'sports' setting! 8F 48154 has charge of a fitted train of open wagons with an array of goods on board.

The above two views show the roof area of the SM house now completed.

Now did anyone see today's addition? Its not finished yet but they are in place.

That's it for now guys I'm cream crackered!

Evening Mike,

Lovely images as ever, and it was nice to see the pics from Stafford, especially 'Blake' on he turntable! It does look lovely in '0' gauge, but how to justify the expense?

I reckon your Clayton has probably covered more miles now than any of the real life ones managed?

Thanks a lot for sharing your work with us,

Kind regards,

Jock.

Impressive pics of an impressive layout mike as always!

As for the new detail to the layout.....

Is it the little white box things that are on the station wall?

Not sure what they are or will be? Are they lamps?

Apologies if im way off and ive got it wrong!

Cheers

Ben

Quite correct Jock and a lot of its mileage on Dent is up a 1:75 ! I doubt the real thing would cope as often. Hahaha

I do love 'O' gauge but you have hit it on the head, I saw a tank wagon at Stafford with a price tag of £65 enough said.
