67A
176 pages done, simply a brilliant layout Mike, you didn’t make a lifting of restrictions by the time I finished reading the thread but hey, it’s moving on very well. Looking forward to seeing some locos moving again. Couple points constructive I hope, the underside of the shelf above the layout appears frequently could this be disguised in some way, curve back scene up and under or some grey sky medium. The back scene joins could line up more flush? Those new trees appear almost a fluorescent green? Could be a trick of the light and camera and better in person? Sorry if those points don’t come across as supportive they are meant to be. Been a joy to read from the start and see Dent evolve as everyone else says it’s a stunning layout. Keep up the good work. Cheers Ade Hi Ade, Give that man a gold star! Needless to say engineering works over-running, just want the messy work out of the way before reintroducing any stock. You're points raised are very valid and have been bugging me for ages, I tried photo manipulation to address the shelf and other annoying items in the photos but it was too long winded to consider long term, I may just give your suggestion a go but need to seriously think what to do about the curving boards at each end - watch this space! Ever since planting those trees the intention was to sprinkle flock over them but just not got around to it yet, I still haven't finished the field areas in the foreground. Still as they say 'a layout is never finished'.
67A
Hi guys, Mostly unnoticeable jobs done this week but will post a few photos of what can be seen later on. I have been doing some sit down jobs to give the old legs a break following a really busy week at work, still they all need doing - more later! 67A
Hi all, What's on offer here does not look like a weeks worth of work on the layout ... First a look at the north end landscaping as things stand Followed by the south end cont/...
67A
The only other thing done is some fine detailing on the control panel... Main scenic board completed with diagram detailing The North fiddleyard is directly below The South fiddleyard takes up both right hand sections All the detailing was designed on the PC and printed on self adhesive clear acrylic sheets, not 100% effective in places but better than previous efforts. I'm quite happy with it. The 'spare' switches are the unused items from the old under board fiddleyard and may just come in handy ....one day! Hoping to get some grass down this week (should keep AndrewP happy )
67A
Hi guys, Early update this weekend! At least there is something to see for a change and I definitely can see light at the end of the tunnel - either end - haha. At last a bit of landscaping which looks well ...... like landscaping. There will soon be some attention given to the culvert Rise Hill tunnel now looks pretty small in the surrounding hillside, the gap between the 'plonked on' extension and the main board will simply be disguised with ????? something I can't recall ever having such an expanse of land available and only running two tracks through it! Still it looks fairly convincing The south end posed less of a problem, thankfully Some stone walling to re-attend to, all in good time Widdale tunnel now has its lining General view to the north And to the south That's it for now, big tidy up tomorrow and hopefully a bit of running trains.
RMweb Premium AdeMoore Posted April 14, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 14, 2018 Coming on lovely Mike, certainly a railway in a landscape. Impressive stuff. Cheers Ade
jukebox
Love those long views Mike - probably because more often than not, we never do get up close to the railway track - and seeing a train pass "at a distance" feels more natural? JZ
Is it worth putting a fillet in the corners. I think it would provide better photographic vistas. Very quickly and crudely done on windows paint.

Hi Jules I certainly like the idea 'on paper'. I have some off-cuts of insulation board and I'll have a go at it once the layout is back to normal service, the backscene is next on the agenda. Good news is that the 'railway room' is now fully tidied up, still need to do the same in the south fiddle-yard area (garage) before trains can run, I also need to provide a cover of some kind over both fiddleyards especially the garage area which due to the wood burner is prone to dust, luckily spring has arrived and the fire will seldom be required for a while.
67A
Hi all, Weekend update is mainly more preparation I'm afraid... All trackwork now cleaned and ready for stocking up North Fiddleyard (NFY) NFY approach crossover NFY approach from hidden return lines to the rear and scenic in the foreground South Fiddleyard (SFY) view SFY located in garage area SFY approach crossover Opposite view General view of garage/workshop with SFY
67A
General views before stocking up the fiddleyards 'Up Distance signal now fitted 'Up' Outer Home signal now back in place I'm intending to knock up some lightweight covers over the fiddleyards before stocking up to prevent a build up of dust, should get them done this week so perhaps trains running by next weekend! That's it for now guys.

mark axlecounter
Hi Mike, I must say the layout looks amazing ( not that it didn’t before). The pic problem might be if you crop them lower and don’t make them thinner. Try it it may just work. Mark

67A
Oops, meant to add that I'll be addressing the backscene next week. I have ordered the foam board and will need to weigh up what background I have salvaged together with some new sections I'll need. Its all coming together at last.

67A
Hi all, Well we're almost there, spent some time on the backscenes this week, they proved to be more difficult than anticipated. Following this grueling job I thought I would celebrate by running a couple of trains! Yippee. First candidate just had to be the S&C lines signature freight move, loaded anhydrite from Long Meg to USAC in Widnes Cheshire. Typical anhydrite haulage is provided by one of Carlisle Kingmoor 9F 2-10-0's No. 92125 and is seen here exiting Rise Hill Tunnel, we then follow its progress through Dentdale to Widdale tunnel. cont/..

67A
In the opposite direction is a local service from Hellifield to Carlisle The local is hauled by Stanier 2-6-4T No. 42437 Passing the box and slowing for the station stop The Passengers are no doubt relieved there is a service back on. As the local passes under the Coal Road bridge it looks like a serious accident has occurred on the road above - truth is it all got knocked about doing the backscene and I forgot to sort it out. I need to look up the name of this stream. Lastly we head into Rise Hill tunnel. Needless to say there are several tweaks required on the backscene but given time all will be well.

67A
Hi guys, Many thanks for the posts and the likes etc. You have all been very patient. Martin's post above in part states that "the operation is going to be so much easier for you" well in truth I need to go on a training course as the fiddleyards are now much more complicated with scissor crossovers to deal with at both ends, I have had a few scratching the head moments already! Why do we put ourselves through it all eh?

Needless to say there are several tweaks required on the backscene but given time all will be well. Looks fantastic - I reckon the stream is Cow Gill Beck, which is just the sort of descriptive name you would expect in the high fell country. There has been a huge amount of forestry clearance in the Rise Hill area recently, which has opened up the previously conifer blighted landscape so it's more like the period you are modelling. Might have a trip up in next couple of weeks. Simon
