Hi mate, glad you had a nice day and met Jason etc, and hopefully not spent a fortune.

Next question is of course,

when are you ripping up the track on Dent and going EM?

hhahahhaaaaaa

Bodge

Absolutely, categorically, NEVER!!! I am having a 'nightmare that begins at the crack of dawn' changing and setting the hundreds of wheels on this 'OO' lot without starting again. So you can take that as a NO! :scared:

As mentioned before there was some work in progress layouts and the trackwork was a joy to behold, I only wish mine was as good but its not, trust me!

Mike,

Really pleased you enjoyed the show, it is great to meet people face to face and I'm sure those you mentioned are every bit as friendly as their posts would suggest.

Sounds like the lads who went to Coventry also had a great time. Jealous of Clacton here! The only excitement around here was a visit by the 'Hastings DEMU on a tour.(which I saw pass the bottom of the garden thanks to a heads-up from Ian, Oldddudders) Yes, it's now history having started out in 1957. Very noisy, I reckon the turbos on both engines exhaust straight through the roof! Never thought I'd ever get excited over a diesel but when you consider our normal fare is a succession of different coloured 360 EMUs..........

Look forward to the next set of Dent images,

Kind regards,

Jock.

Ah yes, the "rip it up and start again" idea. It was bad enough doing that before I'd got much scenic stuff done on my layout.

You would not believe how many times I've done that in years gone by in my misguided youth and other intervening years. Settling down at last!

Hi Jock,

Yes those Hastings units make a bit of a clatter don't they. I bet the drivers in normal service days just loved working the other end! I know the feeling about local trains, my workplace is opposite Moreton Station and all we see every 15 mins. each way is classes 507/508 3rd rail electrics in Merseyrail silvery livery with the odd advertising branded set to break the monotony. We had a possession on a few years ago and had three locomotives in the station!!! Trouble was they were all 66's so nothing to get exited about! How boring the modern scene is compared to our memories eh!

I have so many jobs to do on Dent I can't make up my mind what to ATTACK today!

Will get a few photo's on later specially for you!

And to think that my dad said he used to grumble about seeing another Jubilee (always Alberta, so I had to get that one!)

Afternoon folks,

great meeting Mike and Reorte at Expo EM yesterday, as well as catching up with Mark (and seeing & chatting to a hell of a lot of other people that I know). What a fantastic show; tons of friendly people, the traders were proper traders (selling things to make things with), the member's sales stand had some real bargains (more of which in a minute) and every layout was stunning, including the unfinished ones; Black Lion Crossing is simply stunning even though half of it is bare plywood; Geoff Kent's work with Plasticard is out of this world.

Could not add to those sentiments Jason.

Hi Jock,

I always regret never having seen Alberta, I think Holbeck put a ban on it travelling north of Carlisle in those latter days. I bought two and converted one to 'Straits Settlements' with the correct tender top purchased direct from Bachmann. I'm toying with putting a yellow stripe on Alberta, my indecision is final!

Do I take it that we have ANOTHER JOCK?

Mike, you might like this, haven't worked out how to link it yet but if you type '16t minerals' in the search box, you should get the thread started by M Delamar (Pugs not Drugs), Page 78, Post#1935. some good detail for Dent if you haven't already got the picture!

Kind regards,

Jock.

Hi Jock,

Thanks I'll have a look later, I'm just uploading the photo's I promised - honest!

I don't really remember seeing ALBERTA but if I dig out my old Combined Volumes I will double check. No doubt it did run to Glasgow as it was a Holbeck loco almost all its life apart from a short stint at Farnley Junction as shown below. Its diagramming may just have been too difficult to fit into my schooling requirements!

Hi all,

First I will show the little bit of progress this weekend due to going on a jolley to EXPO EM yesterday....

when I purchased the C&L track I also got some fishplates to detail the track even further. They have 3 types and these are by far the easiest and the cheapest!

post-5296-0-00916800-1410717731.jpg

This is what you get, 8 No. fishplates on a sprue, why they can't give you 20 fishplates on a more slender sprue and stop wasting plastic can only be answered by C&L!

post-5296-0-34781000-1410717738.jpg

First, if you go back to my tracklaying pages you will find I altered the sleeper positioning where each 60ft. rail length would theoretically be. At the joint the two sleepers either side should be closer than normal, I hope this hows up on the photo.

post-5296-0-23393200-1410717746.jpg

Next, I had already painted the rail sides so had to scrape this off at the cosmetic joint - YES I KNOW THE PHOTO SHOWS I SCRAPED THE WRONG SIDE, but I corrected it.

post-5296-0-06429000-1410717754.jpg

Next each fishplate requires a small 'pip' on the rear cleaning off, (its okay if its at a proper rail joint.) then with a small dab of superglue position the fishplate against the rail.

Here another is shown against the platform wall. The big question is - Will you see them, time will tell.

I have only done up to the station platform for now.

Next job was a bit of scenics,

Monkey Beck had a further layer of Realistic Water added

The water course flowing under the viaduct also had some treatment

Here is just a gallery of some trains run at the end of today.

First we follow the progress north of a Stanier 8F; 48739 as it assists a failed Type 2; D5233 with its empty Bogie Bolsters train.

On these two views you may notice the application of further Static Grass on the embankment and land on the northbound side of the station.

Looking back along the train its difficult to see the brake van! But it is there.

Evening Mike,

Fantastic shots - I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the 'Clans' and yes 'Stewart' is ticked off in my Observers book! Just as well because the memory from the fifties and sixties is sketchy to say the least. That is until an RMweb member posts something that triggers a recollection as has happened a lot recently!

Thanks again for the inspiration,

Kind regards,

Jock.

PS hope you get a chance to find that pic. - it may be useful if you haven't seen it. J.

Hi Jock

Sorry can't find this.

Morning Mike,

Just seen it again to check - don't know if it's the correct way but I just typed '16t minerals' in lower case in the search box top right and hit the little magnifying glass which took me straight to the thread. Then hit the little arrows to the right of the page numbers, post 1935 is on the last page, 78. Hope it's worth the trouble for the Dent detail if you haven't seen it before!

Kind regards,

Jock.
