Hi mate, nice to see a new pic of the layout. Very intrigued by the mess room you are creating, sounds like a good piece if progress.

Noticed the light signal behind the 08, nice addition and something I never considered.

Nice weathered 08 too.

Keep the pics coming its really good to see the layout evolving since it left me.

Cheers

Neil

Thanks Neil, I don't get as much time as I would like to modelling but am working at it. Had some 2 aspect signals from a layout years ago but they are decent enough to include. The messroom is a very British Rail thing that isn't quite the same these days that I am going to try and get the atmosphere of.

Will try and get some more pics on as things progress.

Love the 08!

Could you tell what you used for ballast and the ground cover in this photo? looks ideal for what I need.

I would have a search for Millwood on here as Neil who constructed the layout has a thread going through its creation. That should help you.

The ballast was carrs light grey fine ballast, I used rail match sleeper grime on it after it was laid.

The ground cover was an accident. I sprayed sleeper grime as a base and accidentally spilt some fine sand on it, in a panic I sprayed over it with sleeper grime again and it gave it a muddy track kind of look. I did the same process a couple of times and built it up in some areas as I did each phase of sand and paint I sprayed cheap hair spray just to fix it.

Hope that helps

Neil

Another one of the 08, made a schoolboy error of letting the varnish spray go on the glazing and as it dried the glazing frosted, lazerglaze will need to be ordered. Other than that the 08 is done.post-6392-0-16892900-1364851409_thumb.jpg

Mess offices look very good. You could try brushing some gloss varnish over the 08s windows to cancel out the matt varnish. May end up cheaper than laserglaze.

Mess is a Hornby item I picked up recently. With an interior and some external work it should scrub up ok. Lazerglaze already ordered but I may try your method also Cav to see what the result looks like.

Nice XR3/XR3i :good:

I am a bit of a performance car fiend along with far too many other pastimes too mention so expect more as I can find them. Neil gave me the escort with the layout and the Capri is a recent add. Am on my second Vauxhall VXR in the full size world.

Also I have sorted the lighting in the room the layout lives in so future pics should look a bit better.

Hmm... tasty what VXR? I got an old astra arctic big Vx fan!!!

Layout looking really good love the VGA very convincing in the rusted brown.

All the best

Jack.

Insignia VXR at the moment, did have a Vectra VXR once which was a total animal.

The VGA was my first weathering attempt after a while away and the 08 has had more work done since the last pics, I have fixed the lighting in the model room now so will get some pics up of how it looks later

Mate of mine who worked for GM was responsible for ordering a works VXR Astravan conversion which was used as a touring car support vehicle for a season in 2004/2005. I was driving an Astravan for Network Rail at the time and got the lend of it for a few days as a comparison for a newspaper article. Turning up at a points failure in a racing red, lowered, body kitted, race prepped works VXR van was one of the highlights of my career!

Thanks for the info, I've now tried this on my layout, and it looks good. A couple for layers and it'll be done. Many thanks again!

Some more pics, 37678 has had some more weathering to give it more of a Buxton finish. Had bought it as weathered but to be honest it had just been airbrushed lightly round the sole bar. Any comments or criticss welcome! Also done a Shell TTA which is needing the under frame doing and another shot of the blue 08.
