Modelling a traditional parcels train

Was D371 one of the LMR's Royal engines? If you look at the yellow panel on the front it has the small hole where the wires for the sercuity communication system from the loco to the train went. The wires appear to be drapped over the lamp irons.

It certainly seems to have been 'bulled up' a bit; the brass horn covers (which I've never noticed on an EEType 4 before) are positively gleaming. The train's intriguing as well; the first vehicle is an LMS 42' Luggage van, but looks to be of the type with the higher roof described as an 'Aeroplane Van' in the Diagram Book. The third vehicle looks as though it could be either a horse box, or perhaps a Special Cattle Van, to me.

See the last image in this post: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/78364-br-in-the-1970s-80s/?p=1227814, dated 17.4.1975.  The number appears to be ?DB975335. I believe they were attached to the rear of a DMU and possibly used for the first working out from Exeter to carry newspapers.  Can somebody confirm?  Not sure that constitutes a 'traditional' parcels train though!

That's how I like my vans- dirty..

At various times, they were tail traffic on units, coupled in the loco-hauled train, or even put in the daily freight.

Interesting discussions - thanks folks!

There was such a variety of NPCCS formed trains running under different head codes - class 1, 3 and 4

By my era - 1971 - I reckon fruit Ds would have only appeared in the class 4s although on Abbotswood speeding is far more likely to cause the Stove R to derail before a fruit D...... :scared:

Nice! What are vehicles 5 & 6 I wonder

Nabbed a couple of Hornby SPVs from CMC yesterday will add to variety on Abbotswood!

If you find a picture of one in SPV service other than the David Larkin pic that Hornby have used, please let me/us all know Phil.
