This afternoon I have made a start on touching up the paint on the rails in the inspection pits, something I have not been looking forward to. To be honest, I have been putting it off! However, it wasn't as bad as I thought, and now I am keen to get this particular job finished as quickly as possible.

Hopefully by the end of this week I can have all the rails sorted allowing the pits to be put down in their final position.

Two more pits ready!

As mentioned earlier, my two blue Romanian Grids had ceased motors due to lack of use and went off to Grimley works for attention. Along with another member of the fleet, they have made another visit to the works for further servicing.

Yesterday evening Grid 128 was reunited with its chassis and given a brief test run on Motts Lane. It now runs really nicely and very smoothly as it should.

Hopefully the two blue ones will have a test run this evening to check their running conditions.

Hopefully this evening I can work on a few more of the pits.

Hi Class60lover, it is a nice one I agree.

It was nice to get out a few 60s and line them up. Thought you might like it!

Once it is all finished, whenever that is I have no idea, it won't be possible to take shots like that. Although I suppose that a small camera could be placed on a wagon and driven into the shed.

Thanks, I am motivated at the moment and want to make decent progress over the coming weeks if possible.

Hi David, thanks I am relieved that they have been serviced and returned to full working order. I expect there will be a few more locos that will need to visit Grimley works in the near future!

I am looking forward to putting the bodies back on and running them.....

Good idea, or may I suggest getting a rolling road. Well worth the money in my opinion. As you say it is good to get the locos running to stop them ceasing up after not having worked for a few years. I dread to think what some of mine are like now having not run at all since purchased many, many years ago!

It is nice being able to run something, even if only a few cms! Does your cat like to drive the 08?!!!!

Thinking about what you said, having a camera in the cab taking video of its arrival at the depot and entering the shed does sound like a good idea!

On Friday evening I ran my two Blue Grids now that they have been reunited with their chassis, they are superb. Always did like the Romanian built ones.

Over the weekend I finished touching up the inspection pits and I am relieved to say that they are now all ready to be put in their permanent position.

As this week is looking likely to be a busy one, I am hoping to make a start on getting the pits down in their final position at some point over the weekend. Then I can get on with painting and weathering the depot floor.

Having run a few locos recently, this has really motivated me to push on and get this project moving forward.

Good comparison shot between 56007 and the donny built one, I don't know if it's the camera angle but the multi receptors on 007 seem a tiny little lower than the British one. Good choice with 126 as it was the last one in large logo iirc.

Just had a look through this thread and it's a fantastic depot, just how I like a layout done slowly with massive attention to detail.

Look forward to watching it progress especially as there's a big 56 presence.

004 looks a tad to clean for my liking

You won't have any 58 in coal will you . Just a bit to far out your time line. Not sure how long it took to repaint them all and was toton paint shop at the rear around back then.

Love the blue large logo 56

It was still pretty new then so you wouldn't expect it to be too dirty. Either that or BR were trying to keep their new toys clean!

004 looks funny without the snow plough!

Yes I will have a few Coal liveried 58s despite preferring them in Original Railfreight, but it wouldn't be very prototypical to not have any! The period I am planning to model is from 1988 to 1992 so there will be a fair few Coal 58s.

The paint shop wasn't around back then, not sure when it was built but must be late 90s/early 2000s.

I will at some point bite the bullet and get a Hornby Large Logo 56......

I do like the Romanian ones, especially with round buffers. Might be the camera angle.

126 is a nice one to model and I do believe that you are correct in it being the last Grid to carry Large Logo.

Thanks for your kind comments, it has taken over five years to get to this stage but I am beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. Especially now that I have had some locos moving on the layout.

There will most definitely be a big 56 presence at the depot!

Interesting picture of 004. Apparently it didn't get accepted into traffic until 08/06/91.

Its an optical illusion. The british one has a straight handrail and the romainian one has a curved one which bends away from the MU connectors givingvthe impression of more space.

On Saturday afternoon, with the help of Grimley Senior, holes were drilled in the floor of the dead end road inspection pits. This will allow them to be screwed down to the lower floor.

The pits are now ready to be installed, which will hopefully be completed over the next couple of days.

I decided that instead of gluing the pits down, it might be prudent to have the ability for them to be removed just in case there are any issues in the future.

Once in position, I will use weathering powders to cover the screw heads and hopefully hide their existence.

Then I can get on with making a start on painting and weathering the depot floor pieces and not playing trains!

Hi Alex,

You going to get yourself a Rat?

Cheers Peter.

Hi Peter, I certainly will be at some point. One of the ones without doors though, not sure which version that is as my knowledge of 25s is lacking to say the least!

The 25s were disappearing rapidly with only a few left when I first started venturing out so didn't really see many of them.

The ones like 908 shown above were always know as three window ones. Don't know why as the ones with doors also had three windows!!!!

Lots of good stuff in those photos for depot detailing.. :mail:

Indeed and lots of good traction to model too! :senile:
