Oo. I was on the verge of going for the Hornby Intercity MK2ES but I've swiftly changed my mind - whilst these will be more than double the price they look like they will be more than double the quality!

Depends on your region.

I think the Hornby 2es require as much work as an Airfix 2D, and 2D are not difficult to convert to 2E.

I need and have DE and F, my WR 2F will be Airfix converted any Lima will be a MR set eventually

My layout is a fictional heritage line so I'm ok, lol.

Having said that, was it mk2f's which were used between liverpool and b'ham/euston during the mid 80's?

The WCML services were mainly 2F, 2E were everywhere, 2D ER, but of course all went everywhere, seen all 3 in one train as an example the WR had mainly 2E with a few 2D corridor firsts and a few 2Fs

Have Bachmann moved things on at all recently?

I wouldn't worry about the lack of news. If Mk1 stock is now £33 and upwards then the air-cons are going to be nearer £50. The longer they take to arrive, the more time we have to save up.

My fear is the cost of the DBSO which I do want but not at silly prices.

Picked up a second hand Airfix BSO at my local model shop for £8 last week for conversion. I nearly bought the other one........................

Cheers,

Mick

Hornbys coaches would have probably found far many more homes had they not messed up with that visible sole bar.  Overall it looks a decent coach.

I predict all the Bachmann range will go through another annual price hike so maybe 10% or 20%. that pushes a  current Mk1 to around £46 (although the yet to arrive TPO Mk1 Stowage vans were expected to be £47!) so I reckon the standard Mk2f if it hits the shelves later this year will be around £49 downhill with a following wind and the dcc fitted versions around £59.  They are sure to be quality highly detailed items though so its swings and roundabouts.  I'm sure they will still sell well.

I expect the Mk1 will get the dcc fitted option soon too so similar prices.

I suspect the your estimated price of the  non dcc 2F is a bit low, as Bachmann have already priced two other multi coach types in development above that- Thompson corridors at £52.95 and Birdcage stock at £59.95 and that's at last years prices. I fear they are going to be close to or just above £60 per coach for the non dcc versions, if they are releases at 2016 prices, which seems to be the price point Bachmann are pitching their newly tooled coaches around (even more for the one off types like the Autocoach and Inspection Saloon).

To 'Thane of Fife'..off topic here but footplated said 87 Carlisle to Glasgow back in APT days ..have slides taken from cab with needle on100 and lineside speed signs duplicated fop the higher ATP limit..100/125.

The name brought it all back..anyway also like the sound of the DBSO as started a Push/Pull rake way back when and acquired the suitable Mk3s plus an Airfix BSO and a whitemetal conversion kit..plus converted a Lima Scotrail 47..best at the time..to DynaDrive to allow seamless starting and a bit of idling noise in the days before DCC sound.

Could fill a bin with unfinished projects…maybe will!

Dave.

If an Autocoach which has no DCC gubbins and is actually a pretty plain and straightforward coach comes in at £69.95 I think you'll find the DBSO will come in more expensive. Bachmann have clearly established they can get away with charging more for "specialised " vehicles hence the inspection Saloons and Autocoaches, even though the last would in my opinion be a very popular model, if priced correctly.I wouldn't be surprised if the DBSO ends up in the £80 range. Of course that's way too expensive for me. I'm hoping this will release a trickle of converted Airfix DBSO s that I'll be able to pick up relatively cheaply. I just need it to top and tail a repainted Jouef set and I don't need the DCC bits. Something much simpler will do for me.

Something odd going on when I use the post with quote button (only works if I select multiple posts but then once you go back the post with a single quote works).....not sure if its just this laptop.

anyway - I hadn't considered the price of the non standard Mk2f in the form of the DBSO and common sense dictates this will cost more than the regular open coaches.  By your prediction of nearer £80 this might put the version with dcc lighting close to £100 given that it will probably not just be limited to interior lighting like the regular opens but head and tail lights too.

One should remember that of course here we are just estimating about full retail so we should see prices a little lower that whatever the final decided prices are set at.

I think if the DBSO DCC/lights version was heading above £80 that I doubt it'll be produced, with the additional cost left to the buyer to fit themselves if they want it.

The autocoach is an expensive example, but I would really have thought there would be more economies of scale from the Mk2fs in general. £60 each would be expensive, but if it gets much higher it will greatly reduce the number of people upgrading their fleets from Airfix/Mainline/Dapol/Hornby/Lima versions of the air-con Mk2s

Why are some people assuming that Bachmann's prices are going to increase by 17% again next year?

Yes there has been a steep rise in the last year but I would have thought that was only to ensure realistic returns are maintained after recent increases in Far East wage and production costs. Underlying inflation for consumer goods in nothing like 17% so once an equilibrium has once again been achieved the subsequent yearly price rises can be kept to considerably lower levels.

Without going too much into the Bachmann price increase saga again, it is not just Chinese wage inflation that impacts Bachmann prices. There will be a further 20% wage increase for factory workers this year, as year 3 in a government introduced 5 year wage increase programme, which will create some increase in factory prices, however, in addition, Bachmann's majority shareholder (98%) Kader Industries, based in HK and China, requires Bachmann to have its models produced at Kader's factories and 2 years ago made clear that they wanted an equivalent return from UK model railway manufacturing, as they achieved in other markets, thus putting a further increase on the factory prices for Bachmann models, so I expect a further increase this year, well above inflation. Kader Industries also has gone through a disruptive and costly restructuring of its production facilities, which included the closure of the Sanda Kan factory, completed in early 2015. Bachmann, due to the almost complete ownership by Kader, cannot look for another manufacturer who can produce at the same quality for lower cost. When you think Bachmann you have to consider the commercial intentions of Kader, as they are pulling the financial strings.

Other costs have not been increasing by 17% over the last two years either but that hadn't stopped Bachmann. And in fact in some cases prices have increased by more than 17% , I'm thinking Pressflo for instance. Still let's wait and see.

Know anything else that's increased by such an extent over the last two years, during falling oil and raw material prices............no me neither! Still convinced it's not about increasing margins to European Levels? If everyone accepts such price increases that's where they will go.
