RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted October 23, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) Truro on seven blood and custard mark 1's is actually accurate with 021 reporting numbers 25/5/58. You can even justify double heading with your King - 6015 (100 reporting no)/3440 and a mix of maroon and blood & custard mark 1's, 12/9/57. Mike Wiltshire I just realised that I know of a photo of Truro taken in 1957 at Snow Hill.I need to polish my buffers. Copyright Andrew Smith. cary hill
No trains or station personnel on the platform and an eerie silence. No wonder the station closed. Station entrance bw.jpg What does it say on the temporary GWR noticeboard ? I'm assuming its not an informal advance notice of closure.

RMweb Premium Neal Ball Posted October 24, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 24, 2013 One of the lads at Tigley junction shed has sorted the Kings coupling out 81C. Apologies for being such an infrequent visitor these days... but was this a football special running through Brent? - It looks like a window has been stoved in, during the 2nd photo.... cary hill
Headline "Coaching Stock Crisis at Brent deepens after vandalised coach is removed for emergency repairs". RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted October 25, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 25, 2013 Headline "Coaching Stock Crisis at Brent deepens after vandalised coach is removed for emergency repairs". Now we know what it says on that poster board you asked about. It actually says 'The new timetable may be purchased at the booking office.'
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted October 25, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 25, 2013 The windows in that TOAD on the right look odd - no glass??????? Yes and it would be a pain/pane to model it like that and I'd get flak saying it was wrong.

Job's Modelling
Yes and it would be a pain/pane to model it like that and I'd get flak saying it was wrong. This kind of modeling is for me like the salt in the soup. Gives a layout just that every day look

RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted October 25, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 25, 2013 I think that Toad might have something to do with the Snow Hill Tunnel inspection train; perhaps they took the glass out so they could inspect more easily? RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted October 26, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) As mentioned earlier in the thread that I have the excellent b&w photo book by David S Fish http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=8471614406&searchurl=bsi%3D0%26amp%3Bds%3D30%26amp%3Bisbn%3D187127706x With all shots taken on the South Devon banks.I've recreated one such scene using 6015/3440 that were on their way to Cornwall in September '57 with an excursion from Paddington. The coaching stock was a mixture of liveries but I'm using choc/cream with modellers licence.Which also allows me to use an incorrect reporting number as it should be 100.Hey ho. Here they are on familiar ground.... Edited October 26, 2013 by gwrrob

Gruffalo
Almost looks like the gulls / pigeons have been rather active over the airman! That said, I still think the whole is charming.
Trains&armour
On a side note what are ones opinions on me buying one of these for my platform until I can sort a correct version for Brent out. http://www.ehattons.com/60155/Hornby_R9751_Hagley_Footbridge/StockDetail.aspx Nice idea, but why not buy one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-Gauge-Hornby-R481-Footbridge-Kit-/171157906671 (one of several on Ebay ) It's better detailed than the skaledale version. Among other things, it has these infills: http://www.geolocation.ws/v/W/File%3AFootbridge%2C%20Hagley%20Station%20-%20geograph.org.uk%20-%20293802.jpg/-/en On the other hand, it's too high, because Hornby added extra stairs and lengthened the columns so catenary wires could pass underneath. But it would give you something to do next weekend!

That's one of the reasons I like the Hagley version.Alan has used the venerable Hornby version on Wencombe and has mentioned it's height before.I need something to get the Finching sisters and others over to the Plymouth platform.
westerner
I was just about to mention the height of the original Hornby one. It is the right height at rail level. Although I can see how and where to cut it down I've not yet worked up the courage.
Trains&armour
Should have known you knew about the old Hornby kit. But the higher stairs will give the sisters some much needed extra exercise!
