A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

For the benefit of us peasants, TW's pic is full of good things - but how often did a Castle haul clerestories?

Good morning Ian,

I have no idea in answer to your question, but given the Castle model represents its condition as-built in 1922, surely there must have been GWR clerestories still running at the start of the Grouping?

Regards,

Tony.

Good morning Rob,

Highly unlikely I admit, though GWR/WR items have run before on LB on many occasions................

Including............

Even a loco I built myself.

Pre-production samples.

Right from Bytham's early days, though.................

And this one are more-appropriate.

At least three....................

How about this for a bit of GWR antiquity?

At least one big Prairie as well.

There are more, but these'll do for now.

May I ask, please, do you have any shots of LNER locos on Brent?

Regards,

Tony.

P.S. My question is (as expected) tongue in cheek. Your layout thread is one I look at regularly; it's always interesting and entertaining.

Some beautiful stuff there Tony , of course if you had Flying Fox I could run it through Brent like the real one did in 1923.

I'm assuming Tony you have this to review for BRM , so can you share your thoughts on it with potential purchasers that frequent this thread please.

I guess you mean the famous 1925 exchange trials?

Flying Fox was slated to take part in the home runs on the LNER, and was used in the publicity photos, but she ran hot during the first run and was replaced.

The loco that ran on the GWR was Victor Wild, driven by Albert Pibworth, "Old Pib".

My typo and yes you are correct @Harlequin as I have now found a photo dated 1/5/25 of LNER 4474 Victor Wild heading west. A very busy goods yard in the background.

Did Flying Fox leave LNER metals before it failed.? Asking for a friend who has a Hornby Flying Fox …….

No. C J Allen says:

Flying Fox ran very hot on the first down test run and this engine had to come off the train at Corby.
