RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted January 26 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 26 I've had a rolling road since most people in the UK didn't know they existed and they cost as much as a biggish loco. It's brilliant for running in the motor, gears and bearings. However, that's only the first stage. Locos build up their haulage ability slowly, as the shiny, slippery newness gradually comes off the wheels, and that process only begins when they get onto a layout or test track. I reckon my best locos took a least a year and twenty or thirty real miles to reached their potential, and a couple of really old ones are still getting better! Tony Wright
A rolling road? I wouldn't build any loco without using mine........ This is the Bachrus 'Saddle' being used to run-in a DJH Coronation chassis at one Preston show. I just left it running for most of the duration. 13 1

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted January 26 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 26 Well, I also use a Bachrus one, but also I use a circle track. I'm happy to leave a loco unsupervised on either, unless there is a specific reason to keep an eye on it. 6 2

Another vote for the DCC Concepts one as I like the idea of adding extra rollers to the four supplied , depending on your loco wheelbase. RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted January 27 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 27 That is one smart looking piece of kit, Rob. But it's funny though, isn't it? I'm sure others have, like me, developed a sense of whether simply running a loco in on a rolling road or a continuous run will ease any tight spots and change a poor runner into a good runner? Sometimes I look at how a new RTR loco performs straight from the box and decide that no amount of running in is going to improve that... 1 7
RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted January 27 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 27 Yep, plus one for the DCC Concepts rollers. Very useful. I've just ordered another set of four to go with my existing four. Rob

This level of experience is what I'm hoping to gain as I learn more. I don't have room for a circle of track but I do have my dad's 35+ year old locos to service and sort out. They are in various states of "running order" and I'm intending that the rolling road will help me to get them working well. I could also do with a permanent workbench… 1

RMweb Premium Metropolitan H Posted January 31 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 31 14 hours ago, John Besley said: Not seen one in LT livery before Nice, 👍 A bit too chunky to fit in the Sub-Surface areas - unless you reduce the cab height. Even the LT (ex BR) 57xx Panniers all had to have the roof edge rain strips removed to ensure clearance. All the preserved ones have had the roof edge rainstrips re-instated - the owners took the hump when we advised that we would have to cut the strips off (again), if they want to bring their "Bullock Maroon" Panniers to join in the Sub-Surface celebrations of LU150 in 2013. RMweb Gold 46444 Posted January 31 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 31 (edited) Reading jweallans West End Workbench thread Jonathan had recently built a Three Peaks 3D printed L&Y Diagram Low Goods Wagon. Some snaps on Jonathan's thread below on Page 81 of his build. As Jonathan mentions the kit is essentially the chassis and body. It comes with NEM coupling pockets as well. The print quality is superb and all this for £10. All that is required are wheels of choice. https://threepeaksmodels.co.uk/products/l-y-diagram-1-low-goods-wagon I have ordered two of these kits from Three Peaks Models which arrived this morning. Very well packaged with an extensive instruction sheet. These wagons made it LMS stock with some making it into BR service. Might be worth a look. I'm very pleased with my two. Bit of a heads up for something different. Cheers, Mark Edited February 1 by 46444 3 2 1
