That bus has wheels, well 2. Or at least I can see 1 and 1/2 wheels. Can you have half a wheel? if it is only a half it cant roll does that means its ceases to be a wheel (phylosophically). Oh dear, over thinking again. Andy 1 3 1

The odd Q1 did occasionally get as far as Exeter on a engineering/infrastructure materials working from Eastleigh and/or Redbridge that ran as required (IIRC) down on Sunday and returning Monday evening after unloading. However, the timings were such that we younger spotters were rarely about when it came through, and it didn't always produce a Charlie anyway, even when it ran. In theory, at least, the loco could have been "borrowed" for local purposes during the day on Monday. I know it means nuffink, BUT I have no evidence, photographic, reported or actually having seen, at all of a Charlie ever ever being in Cornwall and John is being toooooooooo generous, by jove he is. That thing needs to be sold on immediately and swapped for something more acceptable, such as a Yanky Tank. That did happen when the replacement for the G6 at Meldon in 1962, was misdirected to Bodders by mistake on a dark and stormy December night, the error being started by the Bobby at Honiton who mistook the YT for a Z, in the rotten conditions. A. N. Ar$£ There was definitely one in Cornwall, at Torpoint (as built in 00 by John Harrison of Bristol, many moons ago). 2

A. N. Ar$£ You forget that I inhabit a parallel universe where the ex Southern lines west of Exeter never had their buildings daubed with light and dark stone paint and that traffic levels on the lines kept them in good usage much longer than other people's reality. That said I wouldn't normally run a Q1 on a Withered Arm line, although the following were spotted on Treneglos over the years: Merchant Navy, Mallard, Flying Scotsman, King Arthur, Leader, Class 50, Class 37 and Thomas. 4 1 1 1

Interesting sort of refreshments there with a T(ea), a can of spam, and a coffee pot. Now a fascinating thing about those coffee pot engines was that they were allowed to get to Plymouth via the main line route along the seaside and through Brent so it does havea place in this thread even if it's on the wrong railway. 2 2

Definitely allowed on the route but and would have been strong pullers but I suspect that the Q1s poor braking might have been a bit interesting on the Devon Banks. 4

Brakes? That's what the guard's for, and one brake wheel at each end to boot, and anyway who needs 'em?
