RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted April 18, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 18, 2014 And look what wandered past today: Given the shiny bits and green livery I'm guessing that this is GWR in origin:

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted April 19, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 19, 2014 Did you fit the Kaydees or were they already like that when you got there? I read that they were originally fitted with AJs but they had problems coupling them up and loosing wagons along the way.

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 20, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 20, 2014 10pts that man. They make our own stuff look puny! Yeah, but they're narrow gauge so not proper trains innit
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted April 20, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 20, 2014 Yeah, but they're narrow gauge so not proper trains innit And with the amount of holes, rust patches and missing bits I doubt that any of the locos will run again. Interesting comparison. We've just seen the Dawlish line repaired and reopened in not many weeks. The 'Blue Train' route from Mossel bay eastwards was damaged by storms in 2005/6 but is still closed. Would have been amazing to do the line as it takes a Brunel inspired cliff-hanging route.
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted April 26, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 26, 2014 I'm back in the UK and have a urge to finish off (or at least progress) the boards for Pencarrow. It has been quite on here for a few weeks so, before returning the thread to building the layout, here's a few snapshots of what I've been up to: Flying Driving along dusty tracks Looking at 'game' animals in the wild Shark cage diving Elephant riding Handling snakes Looking at the stunning scenery - mountains, the coast and the plains Being shown that all in South Africa is far from equal Seeing loads of sunrises (5am starts on safari days) and sunsets Holiday of a lifetime and worth all the saving up.
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted April 26, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 26, 2014 To ease myself in gently I've decided to start off on the layout with a little gluing and clamping. So while that sets it looks like the lawns have two weeks of growth to tackle. ;-(

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted April 26, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 26, 2014 Today's progress... Lawns cut, weeding done, garden tidied and another Pencarrow board assembled. Took me a while to remember what all the various bits I'd made previously were for! One more to do, the real oddity of the three that also provides the ledge for the fiddle traverser to run on. Must work out how that's going to work at some point... Edit: everything took ages to do today and there were many lapses of concentration - I think I'm still recovering from 11hrs in BA steerage class.
