Class 66 photos

So, just for sport, how many different liveries are being worn by this class, as of today?

I have no idea what the answer is, but it does seem a world away from 1974, when excitement reached fever-pitch if a loco that wasn't blue materialised.

Kevin

OK.

Off the top of my head for starters. Those marked * are current today - I think....

EWS gold/maroon. *

Unbranded EWS. *

EWS Stobart (66048 - that didn't last long. You could include 66048's recent black livery with/without orange/yellow lines)

Euro Cargo Rail (EWS locos working in Europe but can be seen when they return to Toton for heavy maintenance and/or the RHTT season) *

DB Schenker red *

DBC red *

DRS Compass *

DRS simplified (66434 etc) *

DRS unbranded *

DRS unbranded with Freighliner markings

DRS Stobart

DRS Malcom (two versions)

Freightliner original *

Freightiner Powerhaul *

Freightliner/Bardon blue (with/without Bardon branding *)

Unbranded FL green (66741 for example)

Fastline grey

GBRf original blue/orange *

GBRf Europorte blue/orange *

GBRf First Barbie *

GBRf Metronet

GBRf ex-Euro grey

GBRf ex-Euro blue (66750/751?)

Various GBRf specials - Medite, MSC Sorrento, kid's, 2x Tube, Maritime, Evening Star, Royal Scotsman *

Advenza blue

Unbranded Advenza blue

Colas - two versions with Colas Rail and Colas Rail Freight *

Within those above, there'll be individual variations, such as 66177's white cab roofs and 66078's reversed cab doors.

And quite a few others that I've missed/forgotten/didn't know about.

And that's without counting the myriad of Euro 66s.

Feel free to add to the list.

Cheers,

Mick

And a variation to the DB red 66 livery

Both 66065 and 66066 carry the large DB as well as being named.

Named after the outgoing CEO I see. Can't find a pic of 66065 on flickr yet though. I quite like the "large logo" style 66, the logo seems the right size for the bodyside.

Here's 666185 earlier in the month, which has been de-Schenkered, leaving a glossy patch in the dirt. Also has new style headlights which a few now seem to have gained

Has anyone seen a recent photo anywhere of the DB red Class 66 "Geoff Spencer"? I saw it in the Plasmor sidings at Biggleswade on Saturday from a passing train. I've never seen a 66 so immaculate, it must have been just ex-works or been put through the washer on a daily basis!!!

66065 and 66065 have been repainted and named.

A mildly unsuccessful attempt at e-trainspotting while changing trains at Willesden Junction.

Dagenham to Didcot Ford car train, which is actually very interesting, because it is made up of a mix of four-wheel and bogie wagons, some with tents over, some not ........ But you can't see any of that! What you can see is the shunting engine in the depot on the RHS, if you click on the image.

And, because the above was late, and the below early, a very distant shot of the Tesco/Stobart train, beginning the climb up to the NLL.

Hi,

Always enjoy browsing the great photos on this thread. As I live in an area where there is very little freight traffic I will usually point the camera or phone at a 66 if I come across one, but never got round to putting any pictures on here. A bit of a coincidence last week prompted me to put these 2 up - surprisingly I can't see many other pics. of these locations on here.

On holiday last year in Cornwall I made a bit of an effort to see some of the clay trains. 66 078 was the resident loco, seen here in the classic location at Golant heading for Carne Point. 26th June 2015.

Happened to be in Southampton (for the Boat Show) last week and was pleasantly surprised to find a train just about to cross Canute Road. As it pulled forward turned out to be 66 078 again - now with a big DB sticker instead of the EWS logo.  Amazing to see this lengthy train of Land Rover Discovery Sports (must be 2-3 million pounds worth) trundling across this busy main road. Halewood to Southampton Eastern Docks. 23rd September 2016.

66156 has non standard  body side numbers (one side only ?)

Yes on 66156 the numbers are only smaller on one side, a partial repaint job I believe, not sure what caused it to be needed though. They look to be EWS class 60 etc size numbers.

156 was also the trial auto start stop fitted machine if I remember right, those modified can be seen by the orange and white stickers on the cab doors and aerial above the windscreen at the exhaust end

Small addition - I have seen both engines several times in this thread, but never as a double header.

Photo taken on the 9th of September 2016 at the plumstead railhead of crossrail. The 66 771 and 759 are hauling the concrete train which was refilled when the photo was taken.

How many 66s do they get at the quarry Jo to support the 59s ? Is it a regular amount or just on demand

Hi Rob,

We get a few in on some of the lighter workings, also there's a pair of 60s at Westbury at the mo so they can turn up too. Regular class 66 workings are the Woking and Chichester off Merehead and the Fareham off Whatley. Loco swaps often happen at Westbury though so the 66 may stay there. You won't necessarily see these unless you're up all night though! The St Pancras (10.37 ex Whatley) is booked a 66, though 59s do appear in times of need. Likewise today's Theale, which was booked a 59, ended up a 66 due to a lack of 59s at the time
