There was, 23 in all, converted from 2 door saloons for the Nairobi police. Only one is known to survive.

Well, OK, I'll concede that one, but two Cortinas , one of which wasn't 100% a Ford venture, and, if we stretch a bit, the Classic Capri, don't look like much compared to the positive cornucopia of hot Escorts and Capris that would emerge post 68, and continue in spirit to the XR whatever era and beyond.

So along with my Calibra SE2 which is still on the road: 

I've discovered that my all time favourite car from my Vauxhall career is still alive and kicking too. Over the weekend I randomly decided to type the registration number into Google and this is what popped up: 

 

 

It's been modified somewhat but according to the owner is in near A1 condition and still great fun to drive. Hard to believe it's nearly 30 years old. I'd have another one in a heartbeat.

Another look makes me agree about the Husky. Going out on a limb, the car behind looks too big for a Minor. My guesss is a Mk 1 Oxford as they look like oversized Minors.

I think that it is a Minor. But standing on slightly higher ground than the Hillman.

 

That street in Shoreditch looks shockingly derelict 25 years on from the end of WW2. If still standing, I wonder what those houses are like now and how much they would sell for.

It's hard for many people born since the 1980s to realise that London hasn't always been so desirable.  There was long-term de-population of some boroughs up until the 1980s (in parallel with the growth of the New Towns in Essex, Hertfordshire etc.); before Docklands Development Corporation kicked off, the local authority had a hard job getting anyone to accept council housing in the Isle of Dogs.  After the docks closed, there was very little local work and the transport links consisted of a single bus route into the City.

go back a page, I’ve put a google street view image of the same location up, houses long gone and flats/maisonettes are in their place but no doubt ridiculously priced

Yes, I was troubled by the width, but it's not clear if the screen is split* and it would have to be for the MO Oxford.

 

* It might be, but it's hard to be sure from the photo at the size it is.

Changing the subject slightly, has anyone else been enjoying the reruns of 'Van der Valk' on a Friday night?  Some really enjoyable footage, obviously mainly in Amsterdam but last week's episode was around Heathrow.  

 

Moves fast, too.  I missed a couple of weeks and Barry Foster must have traded in his wife during that time.

No, I had not noticed that these were being broadcast again. I have always wondered why they had not been. Definitely one of the best series from that era.

Made by Euston Films in '73 Ian, between the end of 'Special Branch' and shooting the Sweeney pilot 'Regan' in March / April '74 ;)
