Spotted a few classics on my way to/from the Maidenhead show yesterday though I didn't manage to get any photos and sadly most of them looked in need of a good dose of TLC or in one case probably too far gone for that.

1) Rover P6 apparently in good condition but could have done with a wash and a wax to brighten up the paintwork. Unlike the other cars, though, it was at least on the road.

2) MGBGT on a forecourt in front of a house. Tyres suggested it hadn't moved for a while but again bodywork in a reasonable condition and just a polish needed.

3,4,5) Mini Chelsea, MG Midget and Sunbeam Estate in a front yard. Mini and Midget clearly hadn't moved for a little while and some bubbling of paintwork but probably restorable. Sunbeam relegated to 'garden shed' status with doors rusted through in places :-(

Google Street View suggests none of these have moved since April 2017, although the Ford Anglia and MGZR that were keeping them company have gone.

6) Wooden-framed Morris Minor estate. Bodywork appeared sound but covered in 'green gunk' and judging by the number of weeds underneath it probably hadn't moved in quite some time.

StreetView last passed that location in 2012 and the Moggy wasn't there then, but that was 7 years ago!

I had a Reliant Kitten van mouldering away in my front garden for a few years. In a fit of sanity I sold it on about 7 years ago and its now disappeared from Streetview which was last updated 18 months ago. However a view from the end of the street it is still clearly visible.

Thanks for that find!

Some time ago [in fact, probably several times ago?] I mentioned having seen, as a young teenager, a Sprite that lived locally to me [i lived in Sutton Coldfield at the time..I think the Sprite lived in Four Oaks, just up the road from me]......which had what i now see as, exactly the same headlights as pictured above. Such a pity we cannot see the whole registration number?  IIRC, the car I used to see very regularly, was dark [bRG?} green....cannot recall what sort of wheels it had, however.

For decades I have pondered as to whether this headlight set-up was one of the prototypes tried by BMC before they gave up and left them popped up permanently on the Sprite?

Or, was there a kit around [1960's, up to 1967, when I left home for good].....that could be retro fitted?

Seems like the riddle of the sprite has been solved. Looks like it's Mr Killeens YWD 394 with it all been done by Mirrors. Back to the pic on flickr and follow the links for the Sutton Coldfield connections.

Thanks for that information....seems I used to see what possibly would have been,  a rare 'one-off?'

As a kid I lived on the Tamworth Road, Sutton Coldfield [almost opposite the fire station]....Mr Killeen appears to have lived not far up the road, towards Four Oaks.

My memory must be pretty good then?  I recall mostly seeing the Sprite being driven by a lady...which would have been his wife? Seems I was a petrolhead even back in my early teens? [Possibly aided by asking for a subscription to the US motoring mag, 'Road & Track', for Christmas....?]  Also, I used to avidly read 'Motorsport'...loved the adverts for the old Bentleys and stuff.

A young female friend from my last school, her Dad had an ancient Bentley....of the circa 1930 [or earlier] type................unfortunately, an inbuilt shyness compelled me not to pursue that avenue....

Likewise, I have finally lost the pair of battered mk2 escort shells which in reality departed in 2010. Despite a "sorry, not for sale" sign, there was a constant steam of hopeful passersby trying to buy them. Eventually I made a large "for sale" with a clear price tag of £7.5K each. No more nuisance callers.

The one that amused me was the young fella who reckoned he was going to remove the body and fit a pair of handlebars. I told him to try counting the wheels.

When the Sierra Cosworth was being developed we had many exotic vehicles in on evaluation/teardown, we started with the Quattro (that was fun for a 20 something to borrow for the weekend) and I think the last we had was the Intergrale......enjoyed them all, especially the Delta as you had to top up the water for the intercooler every few hundred miles and as I recall the brakes were not up to the performance of the engine!

I was on a job at Boreham in the RS garage while testing the Rally Escort was on, and being a jammy Arab got a whizz around Boreham rally circuit with McRae, I was so scared I forgot to get pictures :)

What spec is that ? There are so many different specs now originally it was 250 bhp, 300bhp clubman and 410+ bhp international.

That one has some odd looking extra cooling grilles on the tailgate which is strange as one of the problems the had in the early days , 86 Scottish rally I believe was stones getting in the back and finding their way into the cambelt!

Nice Lancia Delta Integrale lurking in the right of the last shot.

I probably lusted after an Integrale more than any other car in my younger days. An outstanding rally car in its day. Now I just want something practical!
