The problem is that people usually look down onto a layout, rather than looking from street level, where the best views should be. If you raise the layout to improve the viewing angle, you get complaints from wheelchair users and children, or you provide periscopes. There is no winning solution.

Very little done to the layout….well nothing in fact…..over the last week or so as we got away for part of a holiday delayed from November 2020.
So it was off to Oslo for me and Mrs G. Our Hotel was in the former Ostbane (East) station, now superseded by Oslo Sentral station. We got the train to and from the airport as well as doing a day trip to Lillehammer. Interesting to see my former employer, Go Ahead, were operating services there.

A pleasant day at the Yorkshire NGS meeting. In the end I took some more coaches to weather. These are the first coaches to gain the Hunt magnetic couplers. I’ve tried a variety of lengths here all of which sailed around the Kato Unitrak curves…..so it looks I’ll only need to get the short ones.

These are photographed on my T Trak modules. They have only had the backscene painted so far.

A little side project….can you guess what it might be? The paint colours are a very small clue……..£7.90 for the Brakevan…….£29.95 for the next releases. If anyone wants the Brakevan body and steps let me know.

Well a bit like buses……two come along together…we are away on our second break……this time with my sister and brother in law. So what did we do…went for a train ride, Bala Lake….and very pleasant it was too.

Great to see the recent progress Andy, I am very impressed by your modelling room as well, looks a lovely space.

Thanks…..the room is a compromise as it didn’t end up as big as I’d have liked and as a result Olympia is smaller than originally planned…….probably just as well. At least it’s a finishable size.

Well the Gin event was very good…came away with a very nice Smoked and Spiced Gin….that’ll extend the Gin season into the autumn and winter.……..anyway back to the railway. No guesses so far for the wagon so here is a view of progress. Twice as many of these were made than the GWR/ Titfield Loriet …but I don’t expect anyone to ever produce it in RTR.

No, I either have psychic abilities or we just share an interest in the same sorts of wagon.

These were only ever used on the BR(S) region I'd struggle to justify one in my BR(M) biased stock box. Scratch building one would be way down my to-do list so I shall look forward to seeing your model develop!

Also today Olympia has a new home………in the garage…..only temporarily. This is so that I can work on the sides that I can’t reach in my layout room. A parcel arrived from Coastal DCC with a couple of throttle holders and a UP7  Loconet socket. This has been fitted on the outside near the Motorail terminal so that a second operator won’t have to squash in to the middle of the layout.

A little bit of progress with the engine carrier, the hood is largely finished. I’m waiting on someone checking to see it the wagon has a solid deck or is open. One still exists at St Leonards WM home to Unit 1001.

How would you replicate open framework? I have a similar issue with a planed Mk1 based bullion flat and cable-drum carriers.

Fortunately Steven it’s decked over…phew!

Today I’ve made the mounts for the cover, these are made from very small Evergreen L and U channel.

Keith

I don’t know Keith, engine overhauls were Eastleigh and generally shipped back to Selhurst or St Leonards WM for the DEMUs or Stewart’s Lane for the c73s to be installed.

A rummage in my stash of bits and I found some etched Nickel Silver lifting loops. these were part of a pack by BLMA which includes all sorts of hand rails and grabs. These have been fitted and the hood given a quick coat of Matt aluminium to replicate the galvanised finish.

I’ll  make a start on the too, boxes and brake rigging next week.
