Thanks Bill,

As far as the buffer stops are concerned, I had thought about making my own, but still looking for drawings / photos. They ideally want to be SR or BR (Southern or Weston regions).

The alternative would be the SR kits from Lanarkshire Models or Ragstone Models. I didn't want to use the Peco ones again or the PH Designs, which are too modern.

Hi Richard

I like the once from Lanarkshire Models and thinking of getting some for Hounslow Sidings.

Like the albums, I know a certain chap who warbles for IM.....he's partial to dropping in to a Worksop model shop on occasion

Thanks Rob.

I did think that he was interested in trains. Wasn't his grandfather a former railway worker?

The shop is now nearing completion, need to trim the roof to fit into the curved backscene in the corner before finishing the painting.

Also been experimenting with the layout lights.

Photos to follow at the weekend ....

Needs a large Ace of Spades painted in white paint on the bridge retaining walls imo. Maybe some Longhairs and Skinheads outside the record shop squaring up(not that things like that happened in my day.........) if its circa 1980. Looks great by the way Mudmagnet so far. Ive sent you a PM by the way.

I'm just experimenting with lights in the top - the top of the layout will be fully enclosed, so potentially I can control the light levels ....

I will have a look at graffiti later - much the same way as on the fence panels on Orchard Road.

I do need some appropriate figures outside the shop - just to need to find some or may end up modifying others. These are some way off yet!

Thanks for the PM - i've sent you a reply.

I've been sorting through a few of my old photos and have scanned a few from the prints, so the quality is not great. The two below were taken in Plymouth ( I believe ).

Of interest being the parcels vans and BRUTE on the platform. I'll need to look at replicating the tarpaulin on a couple of mine ...

A  little more progress on the shop - still need to finish the painting, finish the roof and chimney. The guttering and down pipes have been added, as well as a soil pipe at the rear - which can't be seen in these photos.

I've also finished weathering the Bachmann GUV and Hornby vans.

Hi Richard, yes the pics look like Plymouth to me, I was born there but left when I was about 4, My parents moved to Kent, but I traced them down the old bu**ers, they couldn't leave me that easy, hahaha.

The Wife and I moved back down West to Buckfast in 87 and and lived there for about 3 to 4 years, I would take trips to Plymouth, Dawlish, Newton Abbot and Laira for a fix as it was coming to the end of the 50's as well.

The atmosphere is spot on, re the weathering it looks really good, especially the streaking down the body side, its nicely done, but I feel a tadge more on the ends where dirt would go up between vehicles would help, sorry its NOT meant as any criticism  to what you have done, its just my opinion.

All the best,

Andy :sungum:

Certainly is Plymouth although it is an unusual shot without the wind and rain.

Thanks Andy - I'd agree, does need more weathering on the ends ...

Have you been watching Celebrity Mastermind recently?  One of the specialist subjects was Iron Maiden.

Great work on the layout,

Happy New Year,

Dave.

no, missed that one!

I made a start on the parcel platform last night, but needs a little trimming off the back to fit a little better.

Next will be a start on the parcel building proper.

Anyway, thought a couple of photos would go amiss, complete with the Brutes!

Looking at these, I need to get some more! Won't seem quite so bare once I add the parcels / newspapers etc.

Note, the shop has only been placed roughly in place and the roof needs to be finished, hence the small gap on one side. I won't finish this until the building glued down and the roof section can be finished to blend into the curved backscene.

Coming together nicely. I can't help feeling there should be some dead space between the platform and the shop though - the platform running up to the back wall of the shop seems unlikely for several reasons! There will need to be a buffer stop (!) too, and then probably an inch or so of space, so the last couple of inches of platform is redundant. How about ending it in a wall or some steps, then a bit of waste ground? Or even a back yard?

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your feedback!

Yes, you're right! I'll move the platform back a bit and just thinking about a narrow alley (with gate) down the rear of the shop - plus gives an excuse for some rubbish / old boxes etc!

There will be a buffer stop - I still need to order these ....

Looking very good, Richard - you've made good progress with the layout. Looking forward to seeing this one 'in the flesh' in due course!

May make an appearance at our Barnstaple Show July 26th and likely to be at Minehead in August ....

Oh! and at least one booking for 2015, plus another one or two possible this year .....

Is that a subtle hint its gonna be at the SWAG do?

That can neither be confirmed or denied ....
