Lidl display cabinets now on sale

Recommended Posts

Are you not tempted to take it back ?

Or I'm told any glass place will cut you a bit.

Failing that, if you ever get near Swindon I have one spare !

At first glance, I misinterpreted your suggestion, thinking "I wouldn't go near any place that cuts me, even if it is only just a bit!"

Three years after posting on this thread that I wanted one of these, I have finally got one! I contacted Lidl customer service, which is a misnomer if ever there was one, asking if they could tell me if the cabinets were in stock in Maryport, which is my nearest store, but still twenty miles away. They couldn't, and were pretty unhelpful, so I got up early and drove, more in hope than expectation, but succeeded in getting one. If anyone is interested, there was one left there after I got mine. As others have said, they are very heavy, and I will probably wall mount it with rawlbolts, just to be really secure.

I'm sure you will enjoy your cabinet. Get a second person to help you when you attach it to the wall. They can hold it against the wall while you screw it to the wall.

I bought some self adhesive LED strips and fitted them inside. Looks great at night.

Looks like they'll be doing telescopic trestles that week too; useful for layout building! Not obvious from the flyer but I wonder if they'll be doing the small, hinge door case again? I could use another!

D4

I could do with another 3 small ones but it looks like only the big ones this year.

I bought 2 of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Interlink-Furniture-99800800-Display-Acquario/dp/B002PHLZJ6/ref=pd_sim_201_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=DA27Y3R81NZP1XQA34EQ

Not as big as the Lidl cabinets but I wanted something slimmer as it's a small room, they are 95mm deep, and when fixed to the wall they only protrude 100mm.

They do look good, and go together very easy. Only gripe is the shelves need support in the middle as they sag with a bit of weight on them eg. 4 locos.

I put a screw through the back panel into the edge of each shelf for extra support.

I  bought 3 of these cabinets in the past month and assembled first 2 and have found them very good. On unpacking the last one today, I  found that one of the glass doors just shattered in my hands into a  thousand pieces. I just wondered if anyone else had this experience or was it just a rogue door. Btw I phoned Lidl and they took details and promised a replacement part to be sent to me from manufacturer, no fuss, did n't even ask about receipt.  So can't complain about the service.

I have assembled a few of the big ones and have not had a problem with the glass, probably a rogue piece with a defect or stress point which the slightest of knocks has 'set off', it is surprising it got to you without shattering in transit.

Did it go with a bit of a bang?

Heavy ! That's an under statement....the large £59.99 cabinets are VERY heavy like lifting a 3x2 concrete slab !!

Glad I put it on the back seat would have been a real PITA job getting it out of the boot..!!!!!

Good quality for the price may consider another once my back recovers !

Not really a bang, but just shattered into hundreds (not exaggerating)  of pieces like safety glass. As you said, probably just a rogue piece of glass.

Your annual reminder that these went on sale again at Lidl today. Usually only available for 2 or 3 weeks before Christmas so be quick if you need one.

Cheaper this year too at £49. They were £59 last year.

I saw some in the Wimbledon (Plough Lane) Lidl yesterday.

Does anyone happen to know what the shelf dimensions are? About time my rolling stock found a better home than cardboard boxes!

If anyone around Glasgow wants one for nothing pm me . As long as you can take it away it’s yours( very heavy - it’s the big one!) It’s still in its wrapping . I decided it was too heavy to be wall mounted . I got it about 3 years ago so it may not be the same as the latest ones

They are certainly not that suitable for wall hanging in any house built with plasterboard walls. I solved the problem by mounting it on top of a low, pretty solid, cabinet so that whilst fixed to the wall that is solely to prevent toppling and the weight is taken by the cabinet it sits on.

I have one small and one heavy one - both wall mounted in plasterboard what is I think referred to as dry lining.  Ordinary rawl plugs will however not work, you need a specialist fixing - commonly available here in France but not sure about how common they are in the UK.
